Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
So this is my first build. I find Malzahar crazy good fun and pretty much own with this build. He's difficult to learn but once you understand what he's capable of and what he isn't he's great.
Ignite because it is that dot that can get you a kill if your ult doesn't finish the job.
Clarity because you're very mana dependent, so having this will save you the trouble to port back and have to run back to where you were at, and saves money from those mana pots.
I always start with Malefic Visions first, then Call of the Void, then Null Zone at 5, then max out Malefic Visions, Call of the Void, and lastly Null Zone with your ult taking priority. You can obviously read the tooltips and know who Malzahar is pretty much so I won't go into detail about what each does.
Magic Pen and AP. He's a mage, so pretty simple.
Mana regen, cooldown times lessened and AP. Pretty decent cooldown times so lowering them is fantastic. Again, very mana dependent so regen is good as well.
So, I start out with a Doran's Ring and health pot. Doran's Ring is a good start with it's stats at a level 1, and health pots are good cause you're very squishy at the beginning. Don't get overconfident at the start. Stay behind your minions using Malefic Visions and focusing on that target down to get rid of the enemies minions quickly and gain mana as well. I find it unnecessary to harass. Malzahar isn't a great harasser at the beginning imo, and is best to push minions and the other team down the lane. When you're good and ready, out of mana, low on health, whatever, port back, get the first part of boots, and then get started on Rylais. This is fantastic item for Mal. I always finish it first.
Once you're done with Rylais, I finish my boots, then go Mejai's, then Void Staff. When I'm playing, games normally don't last much longer than this and I get a Zhonya's if I can. I would like a Lich Bane I feel at some point but think AP are more important so, I go for that first.
How to use your ult:
So, Mal just gets better as the game goes on. Fantastic at ganking, great in team battles. To use my ult, I normally get close, put down a Null Zone under them and immediately cast my ult on them. They're stunned within your Null Zone doing percentage damage, plus taking major damage from your ult. Once it's done channeling they always try and run. So, hit them with a Malefic Visions, ignite, during the channel if yo uwant, and put Call of the Void in front of where they are running. Usually get's you a kill and you feel BA doing it.
So, not sure what else to say. Any questions feel free to ask me. This is my first build so any pointers would help out!
