I love how people get soooooo pissed when you come in with a new way to play a character. I sometimes play an attack dmg/ ap shen with tankiness, and OWN, and they still complain. I won't vote yet, I haven't tried it, but i am an aggressive player. He is tanky on his own, not a lot of tankiness but yeah. and for those who say he can do dmg without ap, WRONG. 230 dmg mid game is ****. OH NO, he has 50% magic dmg reduction. oh no, that only does 115 dmg. . oh wow, thats 115 out of over 1800 hp. Wow, you did a lot of dmg. he has potential to be a burst dmg mage. Advance sapling smash. nuff said

Yes i downvoted it because he copied phreaks build you noob. Honestly, copying someone else's build and changing the name doesnt make it a good build. Yea sure maokai isnt the best killer late game but i still finish with at least 8 kills per game and over 20 assists. People read into the name of this build in the wrong way. No this is not a tank build. But look at the resists (mr and armor) that are built in. Do i really have to spell it out for you? This is a soak build that CAN and WILL kill the opponent. Dont use it if you dotn want to it makes no difference to me. I use thsi build daily and i get lots of kills and wins with it.

Your down vote of the top rated Maokai guide stated that he had no creativity.. Yet you just have a very standard AP build that works better on characters that are meant to deal damage. Very imaginative and creative of you...

You seem to just wanna buck the system, your attitude sucks and your responses are obnoxious at best. Probably lending to the ~50% rating of your guide.

AP/Tank build seems to work much better at what this characters purpose was meant to be.

I completely agree with jet. I also see Maokai as a support champion. Not as a killer. He needs to be able to soak some damage. If he can't what's the point of him in a teamfight? I know he can do a lot of damage, but he has kinda low survivability with pure AP. You might not be able to survive an initiate, so it would require to have a teammate, who could do that. However, I find Maokai to do nice damage even with tanky items - just like Renekton.
You asked me if my guide was just to make one for Maokai (Quite provoking if you ask me - at least when I have tons of descriptions).. Well, why do you aske me that, when you don't see Maokai as a support champion? I don't get it.

I am neutral in this. It is a good build but here are some of my suggestions. I dont agree with Jet that Maokai is 'just' a support character. Maokai can dish out lots of damage and even take on a solid dps character. His twisted advance, sapling toss, arcane smash combo is so devastating he would be an AP tank/support/carry. With me I tend to think, not getting Archangels too early. Maokai's twisted advance makes him become the frontline where everyone would be aiming for you (if not there is another squishy to be focused). And since his ability takes him right into the centre of the fight, i think he dies too quickly. Ur better of building ur Rod of Ages first for the survivability early game. Then continue to build ur AP up. I agree with ur Tear of the Goddess because its what i take in my build. This is a good build if ur going straight AP but not wanting to become a tank which is the whole point of this build. But I think Maokai needs to be either an off-tank or an AP tank for the reason that he can't be a killer. In team fights, he'd just be demolished. Anyway thats my opinion and I cant really suggest any items that would break your build which is not to be a tank but an AP Caster/killer. So i remain neutral.

This is a good build. Haters should try it out before they complain, what they don't get is that Maokai has epic ranged harrass abilities like no other champion. Anyone who plays any champion on lv 30 premades and ranked games with recommended builds is going to fail, so I don't agree with the other guys comments. Anyways check out my build for him too.

Very nice build. I was using something similar. But very often I get assists only while doing most of the job :/

I see how the build could work, but at the same time, if they wanted him to be a AP burst carry, then they would have made him that. He is labeled as a support tank so why try and change and put him into a completely different spectrum? No questioning that fact that it works because it works for you, but if I am looking to use him in ranked matches or lvl 30 pre-made norms, Im going to use him as he is labeled because he seems most successful in that way.

I love how haters are downvoting because they think he should be support. be more fail. Anyone can kill and this champ can do it well. 9-0-11 my second game with this build and i generally finish with 25+ assists as well. BTW, ive seen ad taric and he kicked ***.
