I think you switched Void Staff and Haunting Guise in the description. While Haunting Guise is always useful, as the enemy's magic penetration can go into negatives, Void Staff's % reduction almost always useless, as anyone but tanks stacking resist will have <30-40 resist after the sorcerer's boots.
How wrong can you be... Magic Penetration can get the enemy never beyond 0...
And Void Staff isn't useless, it helps against those pesky magicres stackers.
interesting, ill try this, normally i tank up cho'gath
Personally i believe Cho'gath is a caster. On his info thing on league, it will show that his skills are strong while his health is only medium. Also look at his rupture AP to Damage on Rupture, its 1:1. and Feral is 10:7 So I think its the best for Cho'gath to go AP. Tell me how you did :D

Thanks for catching that! I will try to better explain that in the guide
I normally never take Mejai's Soulstealer and go Rod, just due to noticing I play like a ****** due to fear of losing a stack, or greed of trying to get closer to 20.
not just 1000 damage. theres like another 100-200 damage :D
Nothing beats a 1000 damage feast!
