Story

Before Nocturne, people believed that dreams were figments of their imagination, meaningless images that flashed through the mind when one slept. This belief was put to the test when a rash of sleep-related incidents started afflicting summoners of the League. Some would wake up screaming, terrified and beyond consolation. Some could not fall asleep, slowly going mad as the nights ticked by. Some simply never woke up. Physicians were baffled until a Field Architect happened to pass out next to a nexus on Twisted Treeline. Witnesses said he cried out once and then stopped breathing. Immediately after, magical energy arced out from the nexus, and Nocturne appeared.

Nocturne did not take his introduction to this world kindly. He slaughtered everything he could find before summoners were able to magically confine him. After a period of intense study, League experts divined that Nocturne hunted summoners in their sleep, attacking them in a place where their magic was useless. This seemed to be his only purpose. The families of the victims demanded justice, but League officials were concerned that death might only return Nocturne to the place from which he came. They bound him to a nexus fragment, trapping him in the physical world. As punishment for his crimes, they allowed summoners to call upon Nocturne in the League matches, bending his will to the summoners he hates and creating his own personal nightmare. League scholars don't know whether he truly came from the plane of dreams, or whether there are any more like him. Some theorize that the summoning act affected summoners' subconscious minds, luring Nocturne to them in their sleep. Perhaps the most disturbing theory is that Nocturne is a person's nightmare come to life. If this is true, they wonder, who is the dreamer?

Spells

Summoner: Ghost and Exhaust are the two I have been using, but Cleanse is also a pretty solid choice. If your jungling smite is an obvious choice as well.

Champion:

Umbra Blades:Every 10 seconds, Nocturne's next attack strikes surrounding enemies for physical damage and heals himself for each target hit. Nocturne's physical attacks reduce this cooldown by 1 second.

This is Nocturnes Passive which makes farming with him a lot faster then with some other champions. Since I play Nocturne with many Attack Speed items, this means my blades will be going off like crazy mid and late game.

Duskbringer:Nocturne throws a shadow blade which deals damage, leaves a Dusk Trail, and causes champions to leave a Dusk Trail. While on the trail, Nocturne ignores unit collision and has increased Movement Speed and Attack Damage.

Great Harass skill early game as the range on it is pretty crazy. I have killed plenty of low HP champions that were hugging a tower with this skill without agroing the tower. The skill is also great for chasing down enemy champions, clearing out creeps and in a sticky situation can be used to aid in escaping. It boost your speed and you don't collide with those annoying creeps.

Shroud of Darkness:Nocturne empowers his blades, passively gaining attack speed. Activating Shroud of Darkness allows Nocturne to fade into the shadows, creating a magical barrier which blocks a single enemy spell and doubles his passive attack speed if successful.

Great Passive from training this up, gain a ton of attack speed just from putting points in. The activate effect is amazing as well if you get good at timing it. It helps if you know the champions you are playing against but you can really ruin someone's day with this. I have not had a chance to use this against all champions yet but I know you can eat Nunu's ultimate with it and Ashes as well, which really puts a hurt on them never mind the fact that you get the attack speed bonus!

Unspeakable Horror:Nocturne plants a nightmare into his target's mind, dealing damage each second and fearing the target if they do not get out of range by the end of the duration.

Decent skill to help when you are in a 1v1 fight, chasing someone down or even running away. I used to train it last but I have discovered its a bit more useful then I originally thought.
Paranoia:Nocturne reduces the sight radius of all enemy champions and removes their ally vision in the process. He can then launch himself at a nearby enemy champion.

Nocturnes ultimate gank move this skill is useful for killing runners, saving teammates and even, under the right circumstances, escaping a gank. I tend to save my ult for runners, I was in several games with Yi in particular yesterday who always seems to escape the fray with only a fraction of his hp remaining, this puts the hurt on him and all running champions just when they think they are in the clear.

Items

The basic build order I have been using when I play Nocturne an be seen Additionally:

If I am encountering heavy resistance, CC or Stun I will:

Get Mercury Treads instead of Berserker Greaves
Make Banshee's Veil Earlier

In Addition:

If you are playing against a "Tanky" Team or the enemy has a tank that refuses to die (there was an amumu like this in one of the games I was in) consider the Blood Razor, this will mess him up pretty bad as the damage is % of HP based stacking HP will be useless against you.

My Item build is still under heavy testing, so It may change a bit over time.

Early Game

I usually buy boots right at the start along with 1 or 2 health potions.

Early game is all about laning (or jungling if that is more your vibe) I haven't personally jungeled with Nocturne but I know it is doable. Generally I stay in lane until 4 or 5 (if you dont have much resistance you can usually stay longer) farming gold and harasing with duskbringer. If there is a lot of resistance I will hit the jungle to hit 6 so I can begin ganking people. Be sure to not fall behind on leveling however as that can make ganking more difficult.

Mid Game

Keep leveling and farming while ganking when you have the opportunity. Map awareness is key, help out your teammates if they are being harassed and if you get the opportunity to push or destroy a tower do it.

You should be able to kill pretty much every champion 1 on 1. If a team battle emerges as long as things are not going to badly for your team you may be better off waiting in the shadows until you can gank a runner or kill a caster without to much resistance. Nocturne can be very squishy and teams tend to target him quickly, I think its something to do with him being badass.

Late Game

By now you should be a beast, capable of killing anything you get the drop on in 1v1 and clear out creeps in seconds. Your attack speed should be high enough for you to tear apart enemy structures and champions. Pick your targets and go for champions that are low HP, squishy and or make you angry.

Tips

- Do not be the first to engage, you will most likely die

- Learn how to use Shroud of Darkness. Mastering timing it will allow you to absorb stuns, slows and even the nastiest of ultimates

- Wait until the last second to activate the shield, its up for a very short time and activating it to early may allow the enemy to hold of on casting his spell

- Don't waste Paranoia to initiate a fight, while it does a good deal of damage it is better used for finishing off a runner

-Unspeakable horror can be used when running away. If an enemy Champion is on your butt tether them with Unspeakable horror and if they dont back off they will be feared, letting you get further away from them.

-MAP AWARENESS IS KEY- If you are not paying attention to the map you WILL miss out on kills/ganks and that will suck, so get used to using the map often.
