The main difference I use compared to this guide are boots of mobility, to get around to small smirmishs quickly and save my teammates. Often I pull people out very easily. The other advantage of this, when it comes time to chase a running enemy, as long as I don't hit anyone, I'm next to them at the speed of light laying down dissonance for my teammates to catch up and deliver the damage if they're not low enough for me to finish off.
I don't see the need to build Orianna with survivability. Unless I do something stupid, no character has the ability to get at me unless they are nocturne or use a well timed flash. Orianna is just so amazing at escaping I even forgo taking flash in favour for heal. Don't hate on me yet - I use heal in conjunction with shield to clutch save teammates literally about to take the final shot and often I get them out alive because of this. A quick dissonance and depending on situation, stand just behind my teammate to tank any skillshots coming their way, as I'm usually on full health 90% of the time.
You are probably right in that sense. It is most likely a little far to call this build a support. I feel she is more support than a normal mage. I guess that is the point I was trying to make.
This is the way I play her. Call her what you want. Mage, support, hot metal lady. Some games I'm legendary. Other's I get 25 ***sists.
I think this is the way to play her because it plays on her strengths. People say "Defense! HP!", I see one of the largest ranges in the game with the extreme mobility and kiting. I see being invisible in fights.
But that's my 2c. It seems this community as a whole hasn't taking a liking to my playstyle and that's OK. I guess this approach isn't for everyone. To each his own. I will still play her this way an I am having great success. If I renamed this guide, it would be Orianna: The supporting mage.
This makes me sad, because its as if I am defending this point over and over and no one is getting what I'm trying to do.
I added a section about adapting to games you are in and building defense accordingly. The point is: Her ball IS her defense. If you follow this guide, you will have ~140 armor ~110 MR and a ~550 HP shield every 5.5s on you. Not to mention the fact that Orianna has AMAZING escape ability.
You don't NEED HP. You don't NEED to build her as a support tank like you would Zilean. Try it out. If
second your build has none of the essential support stuff that most other supports has which are the underrated auras. most other supports have auras either built in or they get them in items (janna has passive, soraka has her passive, taric has his ult, sona's QWE all have auras, karma builds arua items, zilean has his passive).
third this is a glass cannon build meaning that you'll have to depend on your team to keep you alive and if your a support this isn't right because your supposed to be the one that protects others not the one that gets protected. as well people will often focus the support first as they are often easy prey assuming your close enough to throw the ball into their team what is stoping them from throwing their everything at you? if you say your team's in there before you then your in one of 2 boats, your team initiated and your winning meaing it doesn't matter weather your a support or a caster its likely that you'll win or in boat 2 your team got initiated upon and that means your probably gonna lose the fight unless you can properly counter initiate in time and got a shield off on the person that got initiated on AND start running like crazy. the problem is you can't regroup heal up with your supportive powers and dive back in because she doesn't have a heal
so if the important support elements are missing in her core skillset its pretty safe to assume that you need your support powers coming from items which they aren't either making is so this is not a support build but a caster build as it focus on damage more than support. lastly, as a support there's a hidden art that often gets forgotten called baiting and with a glass cannon build like your's no wonder baiting is a forgotten art.
like i said earlier there's nothing wrong with calling this Glass Cannon AP Caster Nuker build but calling this support is just wrong.
You say this is a support oriented build however, i see other builds that do the same exact thing as yours AND provides survivability, damage, and support options. This honestly seems like a Normal game build, for those playing ranked this type of glass cannon build would not work in upper elo levels.
You might say if you're playing her right no one should touch her however, someone can ALWAYS get to you. Especially counter-carries, and Orianna poses enough of a threat regardless of her role to become focused.
I agree with your points about anti carries. I wouldn't call the experience I have "high ELO", but my premade has faced VERY organized teams with success with this build. Just the other night we qued with another 5 man premade that ran double jungle with zilean for boosted exp. I gave up 3 early game kills before our tank adjusted to the ganking chaos. We ended up winning with sheer teamwork and oriannas amazing support in team fights. I ended 5/4/23.
Like I said, I do agree with your statement about no defense not being full proof. I think I focused a bit too much on how survivable Orianna is without any d items that I forgot to mention that hey should be bought depending on the game. I will definatly add a section in the items about this adaptability. Thank you for the suggestion.
