Introduction - Getting that boomstick stiff
"Poopy is bad 3 champ"
"Poopy no good carry n 5s"
All to often ******ed low elo idiots make comments like these when you select poppy, first and foremost, ignore these kids. They are either A) Bad, B) ******ed, Or C) Some kind of weird mixture of both. Poppy is an underplayed, overlooked, and all to often ignored champ, for 2 reasons, the first being she is played mostly by kids who do her no justice, and secondly because she makes weird noises that nobody wants to listen to. Poppy has several things going for her:
- She is a solid Anti-Carry
- She can be played either AP, AD, or hybrid
- She is robust
- Her Q, Nuff Said.
People fail to realize the value of a good poppy, I mean come on, you basically knock out a carry before a team fight even gets to the good part, ultimates.
Runes are pretty simple, On both AP and AD I like to run all movement speed quints, I do this for one reason; Poppy has a Q that hits for a bazillion damage. The ability to catch up to people and smash them with a Q could be the difference between a kill for you, or an escape for them. Hell, way to often have I managed to catch up, Q an escaping foe, have to turn back to avoid tower shots and had a karthus kill the enemy with an Ult that otherwise wouldn't have done enough damage. Basically, movement speed = good. Now the difference between AD and AP poppy for marks is magic pen vs armor pen...really that one was obvious. For seals on both builds I like to go mana regen per level because it gives a nice bonus at level 18 at which point you will be spamming Qs, Ws, and Es. Glyphs are the traditional CDR glyphs, they allow for spamming of Q and end up giving you a nice advantage early on, I go with flat CDR because early game cooldown reduction is key to putting out damage.
As with most characters I like to go with the 21/9//0 build for AD giving the extra bit of crit damage for those 1400 Q crits with your ult popped. The 9 points in defense give you extra MR/Arm, as well as some health regen, after all you're an AD melee, you'll be right in the middle of the fight, the extra lil bit helps when getting caught with those nasty AoEs. For AP I prefer a 9/0/21 build, giving the extra AP, CDR, and magic pen from offense, while still maintaining all the goodies from Utility.
Items are tricky for poppy, as with all characters, items are situational depending on how a fight goes. There is no one perfect item setup that will work in all games, there are however, core item builds. For both poppy builds the start is always the same:
AP/AD Poppy Core:
Start with aand a,->. Grab, then rush a.
AD Poppy:,->(if the other team is AP or CC heavy),->,->, Afteryou get into situational items, if the opposing team is Armor heavy grab a, if you're dying a lot to AP perhaps a, if you're dying to both, try a.
AP Poppy:,,(if AP or CC heavy enemy team),->, Aftergrab a,+->, Now we're into the situational items, If you're running low on mana and you feel you need more health, grab a, if the opposing team is MR heavy, try a, if you're taking a lot of magic damage, build a, if both types of damage are ripping your face off, Grab a
Item's Explained:
: This allows for you to be harassed without the need to constantly B for mana and missing out on exp
: Sheen procs with your Q which early on allows for a good chunk of damage when hitting enemies with your Q.
: The crit as well as extra crit damage on this will lead to 1400+ crits on enemies stuck in your ult
: This item stacks with your ultimate causing 60% more damage, basically meaning if a target has 3000 hp, and youthem with your ult they are getting hit for a base amount of roughly 1k damage.
AP/AD Poppy Core:

AD Poppy:,->(if the other team is AP or CC heavy),->,->, Afteryou get into situational items, if the opposing team is Armor heavy grab a, if you're dying a lot to AP perhaps a, if you're dying to both, try a.
