Choose Champion Build:

  • LoL Champion: Poppy
  • LoL Champion: Poppy

Introduction

Note: The First Build is the old build and focuses on CDR and all-round Defence

The Second Build Fouses more on Brute AP and Health Regen

The Tips in this build are all based on the old Build because I'm too lazy to re-write it. Most of them aplly to the new build as well though.

Poppy is my main and in my opinion the most annoying champion to play against. Her combination of skills makes for an uncatchable, 2.4 second cooldown, 1500 damage, nuke. (That can go almost invincible for 6 seconds in a team fight)

Runes, Masteries & Summoner Spells

I've chosen to go for a straight AP rune build so that at the start of the game you'll be able to stun someone against the wall and easily take out half their health without having even auto-attacked once. This usually gets me first blood or at the least allows me to push one enemy out of lane, stopping them from getting exp.

A 9/21/0 Mastery build works really well with poppy as she is quite squishy at the start. This allows her to survive until she gets into her build.

Exhaust is essential to playing poppy and you can use it in many ways.
1. To slow down an enemy, run up beside them and dash them into a wall.
2. To slow down an enemy when you're on low health, and make an easy get away.
3. Best For Last. In a team fight, Activate your ulti on someone and then exhaust the person. You now have 3 seconds of almost invulnerability.

Teleport. I chose teleport because it allows me to roam without neglecting turrets. I can also switch to another lane during a stalemate and push a tower then run using Paragon of Demacia.

Ghost. My third choice would be ghost. Hands down this has got to be the best summoner spell for getting away with no health and laughing at your opponents and their pitiful movespeed. This, in combination with your boots and Paragon of Demacia makes you a nightmare for anyone to chase.

Items

[*] Doran's Ring
This allows you to put more brute AP damage into your Heroic Charge and Devastating Blow.

[*] Boots of Swiftness
I choose Boots of Swiftness in conjunction with Paragon of Demacia so I can place my Heroic Charge better and get that stun in to secure a kill. This also allows me to outrun enemies easily when in danger.
You may want to change this for Boots of mobility if you want to roam more freely, it's your choice.

[*] Sheen
Enough said. This item was made for poppy. Without this item, she would be called Poopy (lame pun). Jokes aside, this item double's your hammer's damage and gives you much needed mana.

[*] Frozen Heart
AD enemies? BS DPS? This is your item. It gives you 99 Armor and a 20% attack speed reduction to all enemies around you. It also Gives you 20% cooldown reduction and MORE mana.

[*] Abyssal Scepter
AP enemies? You now have a load of Magic Resistance.
You're enemies have Magic Resistance too? You now have MR reduction.
They never had Magic Resistance in the first place? Mwahaha they're now in negative numbers.

[*] Lich Bane
Upgrade your Sheen into a Lich Bane and watch the kills roll in. Minion Kills, that is. This will allow you to last hit an enemy minion on 80% hp Who else can do that?
Oh yeah, you also now have even MORE Magic Resistance.

[*] Morello's Evil Tome
"Hey, I already have 20% CDR from my Frozen Heart but I want even more"
Well, this item not only gives you a sweet hit of AP but gives you that extra 20% CDR. Enjoy spamming a, by now, 1200 damage hammer every 2.4 seconds.

[*] Rabaddon's Deathcap
If you haven't won by now, you need more AP. Sell that stupid Doran's Ring and get yourself a Needlessly Large Rod. Then Upgrade it into a Rabaddon's. Happy Hunting.

Skills

Devastating Blow: This is your main weapon (obviously) and it is also your lowest mana costing skill and has the neat feature of resetting your attack delay. This is basically poppy's only way of getting creep kills too. If you want to get a good build, you will have to spam this whenever you're not in danger of having to engage into a team fight.

Paragon of Demacia: "Oh no, *insert enemy here* is getting away!" Not really, activate this ability and chase that guy down. Then comes killing him with your Hammer. Also use this to get into position to slam someone against terrain with your Heroic Charge. Did I mention it also gives you Armor and AD? Well it does, passively, whenever you're in a fight.

Heroic Charge: "Oh no, My Paragon of Demacia ran out. I'll never get in melee range now!" Again, not really. Dash and Smash, It rhymes because it's awesome. though it's not always the smartest idea to just dash him. Come from behind enemy lines and dash him into your allies. Better yet, dash him into a wall dealing 1.5x damage and stunning him. Always stun if you can. If you can't put the enemy between you and the wall, THEN dash him.
Channelling abilities are also disrupted by this skill. That means Nunu, Malzahar, Warwick, Yi, etc.

Diplomatic Immunity: "Oh no, even after all that chasing, the enemy managed to get under his tower, I'll neve-" NO, just no. This is where poppy really shines. Her ulti allows her tower dive and for 6 seconds relentlessly pursue her target without having to worry about ANYONE else other than the target of your ulti (not even that stupid tower). But beware, once the person you targeted with your ulti dies, so does your pseudo-invulnerability, that's where you make you escape.
Annoying Tower Huggers? Activate your ulti, dash them into a wall, give them some hammer-time, laugh at the tower aggro, get your ally in on it. Push a tower with ease.

Gameplay

Gank from the jungle/brush behind your enemies and dash them into a wall as they try to run away. Tower dive with your ulti if that didn't kill them or you're feeling a bit greedy.

Activate your Q and W when pushing a tower to proc off sheen's/lichbane's passive and do extra damage. Your Q won't activate on the tower, so have some minions handy to hit.

Use the jungle to your advantage when running from battle. Wait in a bush for your enemy, stun them on a piece of terrain, hit them with your Devastating Blow and run. Wait for your cooldowns to reset and repeat the process. Hopefully your team will be there to finish them off in the time that it takes for them to land a hit on you.

Be aware of all the terrain that you can use.
1. Trees
2. Towers (Destroyed or not)
3. Inhibitors
4. Nexus
5. Anivia's Wall
