Who i am.

Im JasonBlyde, a League Streamer who simply LOVES rakan, his kit and playstyle vibe with me like no other.
Im currently Platinum 2. (i went on tilt after D5 promo's losses for the 4th time)
my style of Rakan is so different to most Rakan players i see that i felt like a guide might be helpfull for anyone who sees me on stream/ingame and is intrigued by how and why i play rakan so differently
Back to Top

Why Rakan?

simply because i love mobile champions, and since im a support main he's the best fit for my playstyle, the playmaking potential and efficiency to help his adc kite is just insane if played right. the biggest thing i love about Rakan is his personality. his carefree nature in unison with how much he cares for that one person in his life above anything else.

What's so different about my playstyle?

well, this is a pretty hard to answer question.
i personally feel like how i play him just fits his playstyle better then what most people do. for instance, if you watch LCS players play rakan he's used as a secondary engage to help lock down the enemy team while his team whales on them (i do that as well, but not as laid back as you see them play him)
he's played very defensive, mostly maxing W first because of the dmg/cd with communication is stupidly powerfull.

BUT...
since most of us arent LCS players, nor players that play with 5 premades. we look at SoloQ

and SoloQ is a whole different beast, and that style of Rakan cant carry the adc's or junglers we all have to deal with ;)

So to tell you whats so different. im a playmaker, cutting the edge very close in a baiting playstyle thats only able to get pulled off if you KNOW your limits. its very high risk high reward, but with proper calculation and knowledge of the champion. you should know WHEN you can do these gamewinning 5 man charm's everyone loves :D

Playstyle

First of all, the playstyle i go for is agressive early.
Since i level differently. the playstyle and timings arent the same.
Early lane (pre-6)
I max Q during this time, getting all my skills on lvl 3 like usual (playstyle is mostly the same as any other rakan you'll see till that point)
starting level 4 the fun starts, since you are maxing Q first. we have more sustain then most lanes. almost nami level of sustain if you can hit every Q on cd (thats hard to do, but doable if you know how to position)
since our Q has a lower cd then W, and is less agressive to use. we can help our adc win the early pokegame against most comps as well.
standard combo is Q-auto-W-auto-E back to your adc to poke. there's not much response time for the enemy. and if you can land a 2 man knockup you basically win the fight anyway. (careful for tank supports and their cc tho, you want to be out BEFORE your knockup ends)
at level 6, as always. we look for any opp to engage, since rakan's 6 is extremely strong.
pop predator in a bush, E towards your adc for some added range. use ult or W according to the situation. always try to wait out the cc of the first to chain them up for added cc time. try to NEVER charm during the knockup or the other way around. since its a waste of your CC cooldowns, and they cant respond anyway.

later in the game, we look for picks.
With our mobility and Predator/glory combo thats also EXTREMELY easy.
anyone who's out of position and you're team is close enough to react to you want to pick off, keep your ult if possible for their followup if their team is close. but a 780 movespeed rakan can get the knockup for your team. making it (depending on the target, preferably the adc thats a tad to far up) a very easy teamfight.

for teamfights
Try to not be greedy with the secondary engage. if you got an amumu landing a 5 man ult, go for it. keep them cc'd, but any other type of engage you want to stay close to your adc with your ult. E towards the tanks if your knockup can get your team a kill. but keep your ult unless you already won the fight. rakan's charm is amazing against divers, so use it when they try to get close to your carry's. charm they away from your adc's (they follow you for the duration, so run away from your team during that time if you're peeling) and use your knockup or E to dash around/CC/bait them into using cd's on you instead of your carry's.
if there's a pesky nasus on your adc that didnt die after the kiting. use BOTH your E procs for the shielding, while using your Q on cd to sustain them. the biggest trick with your Q is to hit it and hold the heal for a second if you're carry's are stil full health.
divers will underestimate how much heals/shields they get from a Q popping with your E. (never forget your active items as well, redemption/locket are amazing to keep your carry alive for that extra split second they need)

for more detailed info or actual gameplay. you'll have to check out the stream sometimes. there's videos of me playing rakan there as well in case you cant catch me live.
Hopefully this gave you some insight on how to play the Predator playstyle.
and trust me, this is DEFINITELY the most fun way of playing Rakan!
