This is my guide to riven and i hope everyone can learn the arts of the the riven. Most people play riven incorrectly. Everyone believes she's an ad carry but i believe differently. Riven is a great off tank who excels at dealing damage with high mobility as well as surviving long or tough fights. I build her accordingly and believe that she has great potential because she is flexible.

Riven (as i stated earlier) is an off tank which is what most people dont understand. Yes riven does have a large damage potential but i believe, if played as an off tank, she can reach even higher ground. For her marks i took flat attack damage marks for the early game advantage. Built flat armor seals because a large majority of the time an enemy top laner will be ad. I take magic ressist per level glyphs because its the standard off tank defensive choice. Lastly i take flat ad quints for that extra kick in a fight.

Masteries are usually the same when it comes to rivens so i'll try to make this quick. I go 21/9/0 by focusing on offense and a little bit of early game hp and defense. By following these mastery alignments, your early game should be slightly easier. Damaging the opponent while minimizing your opponents is primarily taken for top lane.

Items for riven is where EVERYONE makes mistakes. I dont believe that they're completely wrong its just there's better choices for her. I start with a primary doran's blade. If you want to start with boots x3 that also works. After i rush a wriggles for the immense usefulness of its ward, surivability, sustain, and damage. It also helps a bit with farming too. After the primary phage into frozen mallet combo. Moving to maw of malmortius for the mr and shield which is a great bonus. Now this is where its a bit questionable. If you want you can get a warmog's armor for the hp and bonus damage when combined with frozen mallet and atma's impaler. OR you could take a more damaging item if you think frozen mallet alone will sustain you. Your choice. Either way you must get an atma's impaler for the damage boost when chained with your frozen mallet is a great added bonus. Finally the guardian's angel which gives you the mr, armor, and rebirth effect. Again simple stuff.

so for my skill sequence, again, I promote damage but great mobility too. Since riven's early damage resides on her combo of broken wing's and basic attacks i suggest maxing this first. After max your valor for the damage block as well as the increase in mobility. I max my stun last because its brief and its damage was nerfed a while ago. Of course, add points to your ult whenever possible.

Exaust - A primary spell for usual off tanks and is good for chasing/getting away.

Flash - another overall good summoner spell which is good for chasing/running and is a good addition to your escape arsenal.

Ignite - a damaging spell which is a viable choice but i think exaust and flash would benefit riven more because she needs to land those basic attacks for good damage.

Teleport - another viable choice which allows riven to farm more in lane. Not a bad choice. I actually take this sometimes when i need to out farm an enemy top lane.

A combination of any of these summoner spells are viable but my preference is flash exaust.

Riven is a misleadingly strong character even if she is playing as an off tank. Her damage does not drop as dramatically as some other champions when they build off tanky. Her ult is to be used before a team fight or during a one on one fight to surprise the opponent. It can also be used to finish of an opponent or just deal that extra amount of damage to an aoe. Between basic attacks, try to land a basic attack so the bonus damage from your passive will apply and smack your opponent with as much damage as possible. Broken Wings and Valor are both great moves with good ad scaling that are used for great escapes as well as jukes sometimes. Utilize these moves to confuse your opponent as well as move around the battle field as well as do/escape damage
