Hey guys, a little new here. I just looked through the Ryze builds and saw that they were kinda lacking.
I am sure that my masteries are not the best for ryze, these are my standard caster runes. I would suggest testing your own runes and finidn what you like best. I think that the magic pen reds are the only thing that I really push for on ryze. I remember seing cool down reduction (cdr) runes on ryze and that makes a lot of sense

Ryze is a great champion that dominates most mids(in my experience). I start Ryze with a mana crystal, health pot and mana pot. This is better than the meki pendant because you get more life regen from Sttrength of the Spirit in your masteries. The mana crystal also lets you have more early spells. I then get a tear quickly, trying to build up the mana that it gives from casting spells. After my tear all of my items depend on what the other team is. For a balanced team I like catalyst first for the passive mana and health when leveling up. It also gives you some tankyness that is always good. Get a negatron cloak if they are heavy caster or glacial shroud if they are heavy attack damage.

There are a couple things that I think are important to realize when laning with ryze.

LAST HITS: Last hits is when you get the last hit on a minion, receiving gold. It is good to get used to timing your auto attack to for this.

Your q is really powerful when you hit level 3, the q spell is level 2. Now you can harass harder, throwing a q+w combo is they get that close, or just a q.
