Anlh I disagree with your skill order, vorpal blade allows you to hit more damage at level 1, it gives you a far higher chance of getting first blood and I feel you will be far more resilient if you heal off damage with vorpal blade maxed rather than protecting your health with feign, Legion Aegis buff can stack up to two times, so there is no reason not to have two of them on your team. Due to maxing vorpal blade first it is more about resistance than getting large amounts of health and I feel the heal on vorpal blade is too low to benefit from spirit visages unique passive. As you can see I have put randuin's omen into the build. Im not going to lie, I have been thinking about abysall scepter for a while and I am trying to fit it into the build. But as a tank I feel it is far more important to be able to stay in the game longer. Therefore Guardian's Angel often saves you and allows you to protect your turret if the whole team ****s up and dies. However Randuins I would not build until slightly later, as if you build it too early you will be severly lacking in magic resist early game especially if you have not built Aegis.

I will find a place to put Abysall scepter, when I have played a few more games with it.

I do agree with your choice of masteries, but if I followed your advise then my build would look like every other Shen build, and atm this build fits the way I play, If it does'nt fit the way you play then stick to your own Shen build as I can see it is well thought out.

Runes however are something I do not feel I will change as I believe the offer the greatest benefit to Shen early game :)
Thanks for getting back to me and if there is anything more you want to discuss please send another message :D

hog = hearth of gold :p and i dont think magic dmg are really dominat , you will rather get the 9 points in utility , u will have more dmg output with 1 more lvl than by ignoring 4.5 MR .
Same for red rune , i think armor or mr red are the best , if ur using a low health high mr/armor item build like me health quint/yellow can be nice :)
For the skill , maxing the taunt is mandatory but you can max feint first if ur solo laning or have trouble with harassment , vorpal blade is really not worth it unless you build AP and it tend to drain ur energy very fast leaving u unable to use 2 taunt in a row , feint give really nice increased effective HP and make u really resilient mid game , when its needed and when vorpal blade dmg will be useless .
For example , i use almost the same item build in every tank :
cloth armor + 5 pots or doran shield -> boots -> hearth of gold -> legion aegis (only if support / offtank dont build it) -> possibly spirit visage (the only item with both mr and health whitout mana and cheap) -> randuin (best tank item , the slow is really really amazing) -> negatron cloak is mr needed , upgrade it to abyssal scepter later its really nice boost ur feint and ulti shield and give increased spell dmg for all ur team .
at this point u will be almost unkillabe but u can grap a Guardian angel or a force of nature if u still have trouble or just get dmg with atma or more survivability + increased dmg + supporting aura with will of the ancients .
Im really not a fan of sunfire cape but its personal choice i think .
i hope it will help u

Thank you for your replies, allow me to explain, I agree banshee's veil is interchangerble with Force of nature. As a tough champion it is useful to have the sheild that banshee's veil provides to cut off that initial stun gank you will get as an iniator. Force of nature is a very good option for Shen, the reason for reason mallet is due to the large health boost superiour to randuins, and the slow, which allows you to stop enemies chasing after your carry's in dangerous circumstances.
Vorpal blade is leveled first for its ability to do more damage at level 1 when going into the bushes also allowing you to heal (admittidly for a small amount) any damage you do take therefore superior to feint, shadow dash is viable but you still will be unable to get that early kill as you will be lacking the extra damage added by Vorpal. I'm sorry i don't know what HoG is. As to 9 points in offense I believe Shen as a laner should be aggresive, he has the armour and abilities to be so. Therefore with that 15% spell pen aids your damage (early game and late game) often meaning the enemy has to recall or be tower dived.

*I will however be changing frozen mallet to randuins omen
** I will also fix my runes (magic pen instead of armor pen)
*** I will look into both changing banshees for force of nature and respeccing my masteries

Thankyou greatly for the time you took to read and reply :)

What ? vorpal blade skilled up first ? no HoG ? why 9 pts in offense ?

Shen doesn't really need the attack damage provided by the Frozen Mallet, and your taunt is much more useful in keeping enemies in range of your allies, I would get a Randuin's Omen instead. Combine it's passive with your taunt and you have a chance of lowing their attack/move speed when they attack you. Plus it has an amazing active which is far superior, and much cheaper than a Frozen Mallet. Heart of Gold and Warden's mail will also benefit you more early on than a phage and a giant's belt will.

I'd also skip to get a Banshee's Veil unless it was completely necessary, and get a Force of Nature instead. Shen has outstanding survivability, so a couple of stuns your way isn't that big of a deal as long as your teammates are with you. It is useful though, but I usually get it last.

Nice build, I agree with Sunfire Cape it's a great item for Shen. I'm not too sure how helpful a Frozen Malltet is, I'll have to test that some time. One suggestion though, have you considered Magic Pen Marks instead of Armor Pen? Because Ki Strike, Vorpal Blade and Sunfire Cape passive all deal magic damage. Just a thought. Good guide over all, +1 from me
