What is this

Hi all who are reading this I want to thank you for your time anf I would like to point out that this is my first posted build, so if you would please be kind in your comments but any constructive criticism would be appreciated. This is a build for the Champion Sona "The maven of The Strings"(if you got this far and didn't know that I'm sorry). this build is designed by me to fulfill 2 different roles in the party. the first is the mid character (and before you go HUWAAAAAAAA yes she can mid and don't let anyone tell you otherwise). Sona makes a good mid because of a few reasons, the first stands at the fact that she is a ranged character which is a clear advantage when Midding considering that harassment is the name of the game, the second is that she has only one skill shot and that is her Ulti and that doesn't come into play until late so you can be more aware of what is going on instead of trying to aim every 10 seconds, and last but most certainly not least is her W which is "Aria of Perseverance" this is a healing spell that heals you and the most wounded of your near by allies. so without further ado

Lore

Sona has no memories of her true parents. As an infant, she was found abandoned on the doorstep of an Ionian adoption house, nestled atop an ancient instrument in an exquisite case of unknown origins. She was an unusually well-behaved child, always quiet and content. Her caretakers were sure she would find a home quickly, but it soon became apparent that what they mistook for uncommon geniality was actually an inability to speak or to produce any sound whatsoever. Sona remained at the adoption house until her teens, watching in hopeless silence as prospective adopters passed her by. During this time, the caretakers sold her unusual instrument to anxious collectors, hoping to build her a trust. For a myriad of bizarre and unexpected reasons, however, it would be returned, or simply appear again outside the house.

When a wealthy Demacian woman named Lestara Buvelle learned of the instrument, she immediately embarked to Ionia. When the caretakers showcased the instrument for her, she rose wordlessly and explored the house, stopping outside Sona's room. Without hesitation, Lestara adopted her and left a generous donation for the instrument. With Lestara's guidance, Sona discovered a deep connection with the instrument which Lestara called an 'etwahl'. In her hands, it played tones which stilled or quivered the hearts of those around her. Within months, she was headlining with the mysterious etwahl for sold-out audiences. She played as though plucking heartstrings, effortlessly manipulating the emotions of her listeners - all without a single written note. In secret, she discovered a potent and deadly use for her etwahl, using its vibrations to slice objects from a distance. She honed this discipline in private, mastering her gift. When she felt prepared, she went to the only place which could offer her a fitting recital: the League of Legends.

''Her melody moves the soul, her silence sunders the body.''
- Jericho Swain, after attending her concert

Sona's Abilities

NOTE when playing Sona, when you use one of her 3 main abilities it puts a 1 second cool down on the other 2. also all of her abilitie grant auras that last until 2 secs after the next spell. With the correct CDR you will be able to keep all three auras up at one point in time. You will also want to learn to "chant" with her abilities where you use her abilities over and over in the same order
[Hymn of Valor] - This is your only damage spell when playing as Sona aside from her passive or her ulti, this spell unleashes two bolts of energy that hurt two different opponents in side the reach of the spell (1 opponent = 1 bolt). The aura to this spell gives all allies additional AP

[Aria of Perseverance] - This is Sona's healing spell, this spell heals the team mate that has taken the most damage (this is based on %). The aura that is activated at the end give all of your allies additional armor

[Song of Celerity] - Sona is one of the few champs that have a movement speed buff for other champs. This spell gives all friendly allies (minions included) a move speed buff. and the aura gives it to all nearby allied champs a buff

[Crescendo] - This is Sona's ultimate ability. It is a skill shot that forces people caught inside of it to dance (effectively stunning them) for half a second, this spell also deals magic damage to all of those caught within

[Power Chord] - This is Sona's passive ability. It charges up every time that you use a spell excluding Crescendo, it is fully charged on the third spell, once it is fully charged your next normal attack will change depending upon which aura you have used most recently,
Hymn of valor = double damage
Aria of perseverance = drops the targets damage output by 20%
Song of celerity = slows the target by 40%

Summoner Spells

GOOD
[flash] = its a good escape
[ghost] = refer to flash
[teleport] = this is good for any support player because it can get you where you are going

OK
[clarity] = this is an ok spell because it is usefull early then gets pretty pointless late
[clairvoience] = this is good for those who don't feel safe so it can be of use
[exhaust] = this is ok but really not for Sona this is a job for DPS
[heal] = as a support this is always useful but remember you can heal already

BAD
[cleanse] = you won't be the main focus unless you're caught alone
[fortify] = let your tank take care of your turrets
[ignite] = this really isn't for her trust me if you did this right there will be enough damage

UGLY
[revive] = ... really i need to explain
[smite] = there is no reason for Sona to use this you should almost never be in the forest
[rally] = you aren't AD your summoner spells are to really help you

Item explanation

[Mekki pendant]
This is in this build because this will get rid of your early game mana issues however it will not get rid of them completely

Health pots
In my eyes i see no reason why not to buy these when midding it gives you logevity

[Tear of the goddess]
This will pretty much nullify all of your mana issues there is still some mana to come but that will be really good rushed

[Philosophers stone]
This is good because it is health and mana but the most important is the gold that comes from it that will sustain you for a good while

[Ionian boots of lucidity]
These boots are my personal favorites because it starts your CDR but you should inspect the enemy team if they are tanky then it would be a good idea to swap these for sorcerers shoes

[Kindlegem]
This is good because it will do three things for you the first is give you health, second it gives you more CDR, third it builds into Sherlya's Reverie

[Shurelya's Reverie]
This is good because it makes you tankier and it give you CDR

[Lich bane]
this is a really good item (thanks Halipupu) it is nice because it gives bonus AP, magic resistance, move speed, and extra damage from your abilities

[Archangels staff]
This is to use your tear from earlier but also this will make you deal more damgae and heal more

[Death Fire Grasp]
This is a good item because it gives you added AP and mana + CDR, also it gives you a secondary form of damage

[Rabadans deathcap]
This item is really just the icing on the cake because it gives you so much AP that it's scary but once you get this you will become a real force on the battle field

Summary - How this game should go

Right out of the gate you wanna buy a Mekki pendant and 2 health pots this should be more than enough to get you through until your opponent backs for the first time (it usually lasts me til the second time or around 10 minutes in). you want to start off with your "Hymn of Valor" this will both be your farming spell and your harassment spell (seeing as it is your only damage spell). On the way up to your post go ahead and use your hymn 3 time this will charge your Passive and deal more damage with your next attack.

Now once you get out to your post remember that you never want to get over extended if Sona gets caught by an opponent be it a stun or snare these can easily kill you quickly, so it is best to stick with your turret until you get a good sized minion wave to help you push and provide protection.

Through out your early game there really isn't anything special to do so just hang in there and keep harassing your opponent.

Mid game is when things start to get interesting for Sona because this is when the team fights start so wait in your lane until someone comes to your lane then you pretty much work with them to help in the fighting (always keep an eye on your lane though and fell free to call for help). Ehen in a fight you will stay just behind the melee characters and just in front of the ranged. this will provide protection on both sides. So when the tank initiates or your DPS pending on the situation you want to follow right up with your Ulti "Crescendo" this is a large area stun and can give your side a serious advantage. After the teams colide into one another you should start "chanting"(using your abilities in an order over and over again) and the chant should be "Hymn of Valor" -> "Aria of Perseverance" -> "Song of Celerity". This is because all of Sona's abilities have a 5 second cool-down and every time you use 1 the other 2 go on a 1 second cool-down (the 1 second Cool isn't affected by CDR but with the right CDR you can keep all 3 auras up at once). Whenever you can help the team on focusing the kill when the tank goes for one person help them and supply some damage.

Once you achieve Late game you should start to see the whole team fights your job really stays the same except that you can now go out on your own when someone gets away on low health you are the perfect person to get them unless the assassin is there to because no one sees it coming when Sona roll up in the chase that she is going to dish out the damage. But remember you are not invincible so stay nearby or have a clear escape route.

And that is pretty much all I hope it works as well forr any of you who use this build as it has for me but it is wierd to get used to at first.

Good luck to anyone who uses this feel free to comment below.
