excellent build, never used clarity since the MP/5 was so high! might want to switch it out for something else but I suppose can help very early in game before philosopher's stone

I've found this build to be well rounded, and different from the top ranked builds atm. It certainly packs a punch mid-game.

See the above comment ^

(I also edited my build due to your critisism. I explained why I pick my items, if you wanna check my explanation on picking Mejai.)

I see you mentioned my comments when editing this build :D Ty.
I think it will be pretty viable in Ranked Games like this, but I don't play it myself yet because of my obsession of playing mainly support characters (and only females, but I'm a girl myself and I don't like playing male chars) and I don't like the idea of not being able to farm. However your build should be quite suited for ranked, because it doesn't seem all that expensive, but I still personally like building more AP for heal and damage.

I'll give +1 for good explanations on why you pick those items and for viability on ranked games.

Just for this, I am tempted to give you an auto +1 :))

Anyways, I find that Sona gets auto targeted by the opposing team's anticarry, so in the metagame today, grabbing an RoA is excellent for survivability. I've seen Tank Sona work really good in the higher ELO normal games, I'd like to see just a bit of a twist on your core build for more survivability.

The Shurelya's does exactly that and more. When comparing the two items you can see the following becomes apparent:

Rod of Ages benefits:
1) Gives 300 more hp, 725 mana, and 80 AP.

And that's where the benefits end. More mana, but that's really already covered by the AA and sort of a moot point, and the AP. Due to the low AP co-efficient for Sona's abilities, the extra AP really doesn't make that much of an impact.

Shurelya's Reverie benefits:
1) One of the best hp regen items in the game. Every heal is that much more efficient, simply by virtue of requiring less.
2) Amazing mana regen for a capped CDR, twist-heavy build.
3) CDR - For a build focused on CDR, faster heals means better survivability.
4) The active.

When considering Shurelya's just for it's active alone it outshines the RoA by leaps and bounds. It's like having Ghost on a one minute cooldown that you can activate for your whole party. Furthermore, it stacks with Song of Celerity and your boots of Swiftness. You can outrun Yi with his ult with this item. It is absolutely 100% indispensible and contributes so much to Sona's survivability that I would recommend it over the Rod of Ages 100 times over.

If you need further evidence, please refer to the Screenshots chapter of my guide. I've started a collection of in-game screenshots of post-game K/D/A and build items.

Thanks for the comment though!

Otherwise seems a great build, (I use almost same runes for my builds but only flat mana regen, because all Sona's skills take 65mana at all levels except for ulti),

This is an excellent point, but I have to disagree, and here's why. Clarity seals surpass Replenishment seals by level 7. Since this build focuses on CDR, Sona will be spamming her auras quite a bit. As the build grows and nears that 40% cap, she'll be using more mana, requiring more regeneration. By the time the Shurelya's Reverie is completed between levels 7-10 she's going to need that extra MP5. After the tome, she'll need even more. Replenishment seals are fine if the build has no CDR or is focused on AP or even tanking. However, this build focuses on twisting, and as such, the Clarity seals are infinitely better than Replenishment.

The max CDR you can have in game in 40%, and masteries give you 9% already, shoes give you 15%, that's 24% by this point. With Morello's Evil Tome it's already past 40% and everything Shurelya's Reverie gives you goes to complete waste.

Again, another excellent point, and I've updated my guide accordingly in both the item purchases and the Items chapter. I've dropped the Ionian boots of Lucidity and now always opt for the Boots of Swiftness. In doing so, I'm only wasting 4% of CDR now, instead of the 19% I was wasting previously. However, I have to disagree with you about Shurelya's Reverie. I've explained why in the chapter above.

Halipupu wrote:

The HP regen is really just the gravy. What the Philosopher's Stone really does is boost gold income to help make that Shurelya's Reverie much faster. Once again, I've explained why I believe Shurelya's Reverie is a great item for Sona in the chapter above.

Thanks again for your comments. Very insightful! I'll be sure to check out your guide and comment!

I understand wasting like 5% of CDR given by items, but it's no use wasting around 20% for nothing... And with Archangel you should not be having any mana problems at all, besides you have Clarity to take care of that early game so Shurelya's Seems pretty useless at this point... Also HP regen from Philosopher's Stone doesn't make much sense, because you have a heal...

I know you mentioned about picking shoes depending on the other team, and in my opinion don't pick CDR shoes or completely discard the idea of having Shurelya's at all - perhaps you should pick some other item instead of it?

I'm not going to downvote just because of the CDR thingy, because I like the rest of the build (runes and skill sequence). Just wanted to comment :D

If you want you can check my build and give your opinion about it. :)

I'm somewhat new to LoL but I make it a point to play a champ for an hour and then read about a champ for an hour. I get as much theory craft in off mobafire, lolwiki and leaguecraft as I do actually playing the game.

That said, when I first tried Sona with a very similar build (no runes) I went 4/2/37 in the first match. Since then I've been playing it over and over again making just the smallest changes to suit whatever I was up against and I have to say... it's just fantastic!

One thing is for absolute certain (something you didn't mention in your guide) is that running a support champ when done correctly lowers your average game length time considerably (at least it did for me)

What was once solo queue at on average 45-50 minutes per game is now 20-25 minutes TOPS with most makeups.

Ideally if you are looking for action hit the top lane with a partner, if you want to harass/poke solo midlane and stick it out with no deaths/no B you can easily outlevel any champion in the mid. Most games I solo mid and end up hitting level 17 just as the next person on either team is hitting level 15.

Walking into the enemy base with your clarity off cooldown.. full mana, full health you feel like a God.

Strongly recommend this build! Must try!
