Why do you build liandries in ap build over riftmaker or an earlier cosmic?

Hello! Yes, the problem with Riftmaker is that it is oriented towards AP Bruisers, which want to drag out the fight for as long as possible; Cho'Gath is an Anticarry designed to remove a Key target through burst, as his DPS is mediocre. In a fight, Liandry's will always outdamage Riftmaker, even in short spans of time, while sharing too the same DMG-increase-over-time passive (although it lacks another 2%). Also Liandry's boost our objective taking and clear massively. Cosmic Drive can be rushed if your playstyle is more oriented toward ganks (although rocketbelt should be enough early), try and test it yourself!

Important: This guide will be updated (!)

why W max second instead of Q?

Hi there!

It all comes down to a common misconception: People tend to start their combo with Q. Cho'Gath Q is actually a really hard spell to hit, specially in modern league.

The full Cho'Gath combo is:

1.- W - It silences the enemy, preventing any dash or flash.

2.- Everfrost Active - If you land it, the silenced enemy will be also rooted, making Q an effectively undodgeable ability (failing the root will slow the target anyways, so you can still easily hit it).

3.- Q - Huge knock up and damage, at this point the squishy is almost always doomed and thanks to approach velocity you will be already on top of him.

4.- E - While knocked up, Hail of blades attack-speed will proc, and you'll chunk them with Flat & Max HP Magic DMG + Muramana enhanced AD. One Autoattack is enough most of the time for squishies to enter execute range before they even hit the ground, as your combo already carries fat dmg; if not (Ex: Shieldbow/Seraph's), just dump the three enhanced autos on 'em.

5.- R - Enjoy your meal!

(Conclusions: Upgrading W will prolong the silence and your window for strike with everfrost+Q)

ah, thanks a bunch for the clarification. I feel like it'd be a nice QoL update to add this explanation to the notes section of the skill order tho.
