I've been liking the builds so far (I've been running the 3rd one on your list mostly) but am curious about a couple things.
1) Why do you use AD runes instead of MPen or Flat Armor? I tend to put 3 or so flat AD runes on my AP builds, but a full 9 seems overkill.
2) Why do you put 1 point in lantern and leave it for last? As a support I'd think it would be your first priority.
I'm glad you decided to try my build! It's my first guide so was a bit worried it would just kind of sit there as an obscure build noone uses.
For your first question: I load up on AD runes because you get a lot of damage on your auto-attack pokes with it. When Thresh hits it does his AD, plus his Q passive which does magic damage based on the number of souls he's gathered a % of his AD. This means that the rune bring you up to about 55AD, making your pokes (assuming 10 seconds between) do almost an entire potion's worth of damage. This leads to zoning and eventually to your carry being farmed. You could take half flat-AD and half-MPen runes to give your active abilities a slight bit more "oomph" but I would advise having at least a bit of AD in there. The AD helps so much in the early game, and if you REALLY want pen to switch to a mage-ier build you could get a Liandry's later on.
For your second question: In the games that I've played with Thresh I've noticed that there isn't much need to spam lantern until very late in the game, so leaving it at rank1 is sufficient. Leveling Q and E will increase your harass/zoning, which will prevent far more damage than the 30 flat boost per rank of shield. In my opinion the shield part of the lantern doesn't start getting worth it until you've farmed up enough souls to get a nice amount of AP (0.4AP ratio is really good for an AoE shield) but until then I only use it for grabbing souls and yanking out teammates that are getting 3-manned (which shouldnt be happening more than once every 20 seconds).
I hope that answered your questions!
