You’re trolling if you don’t rush rocket belt every game, the utility far outweighs the small damage you get from night harvester, not maxing w first as well is just a bad move considering mid lane is so small so there’s really no point in maxing it first besides the flat damage it does opposed to the high damage max health damage of your w. Decent guide though, just disagree with the counters seeing as to how it’s largely skill based.

I personally always go Rocketbelt or the omnivamp item (I forgot the name mb), it's just different options for different play styles for different people, Night Harvester might no be the best item but it's still a viable option; that's why it's in here.
Maxing W first is the bad move in my opinion, I already explained it but I will repeat it again: You don't want to sit in lane farming as Zac AP, you'll just get poked to death, the range and damage you get from maxing E allows you to roam freely and escape ganks easily. The only time I'd advise to max W is when the enemy laner is melee and you know you can win the lane but most of the time it's never the case.
As to the counters, it's usually skill based, you can find a really annoying Zed once and the next time you face a Zed it's easy game. If you really know your champ as well as the enemy's champ, as long as you avoid making mistakes you can win any match-up with an off-meta pick like AP Zac Mid.
Thanks for the feedback tho !

Hey! I’m an AP Zac main in the jungle, a bit in midland, and I also love playing support Zac (but that’s a different conversation). I always build Night Harvester and Hextech Alternator (and Deathcap) which is honestly all I need to one-shot anyone. I noticed that you said in some other comments that you believe Zac can only one-shot squishes/not too tanky champs. Respectfully, I think he can one-shot tanks as well. His recent buff to his W AP scaling really helps, for full AP Zac can almost get up to 50% Max HP, which is kinda insane. I love your guide, and would definitely support you in making a full AP Zac guide if you ever do that :)

Also! In my limited midlane AP Zac playing (you definitely know more about this than me), I’ve taken to maxing W first. Now, I know it’s crucial to have E maxed because of the distance; however, the W damage for wave clear and trades is not to be messed with. Jingling, you need that E range to gank, but midlane, it’s not as important, only with roaming. I think you should mess around with at least putting a few points in W first, just a thought!

Thanks for the guide! I’ll try that item build for sure, it’s nice to see a fellow AP Zac hehe

I max W when I play top because most enemies are melee, midlane if you keep trying to farm with W and walk around picking up your blobs, you're gonna get poked too much.
I usually hide behind the wall and E on the enemy laner for a big chunk of damage because it's maxed, then Q W you know. At the same time you get some minions and most of the time I roam as well, I don't just sit in lane.
I really appreciate your feedback and will make sure to edit some stuff !

Night Harvester would really be for a full AP version because the goal of Night Harvester is to do a big chunk of damage at once, it would be nice for some one shots if you use it as an assassin but it's quite hard to assassinate someone unless if it's a feeding squishie. But it can be done if really fed, I don't know why I didn't think about putting this item (might be because you want some survivability but idk); I will add it anyway.
Thanks for your comment !

I really like this guide. I hope it stays updated. Have you tried just going full AP items or is that too risky?

First of all, thank you so much ! I'm glad you like it and yes I will keep it updated because I love playing Zac and surprise people with the damage he can do.
It is quite risky and unless you are really destroying them already which is not that easy unless you roamed a lot and farmed very well so in short "played perfectly" you could just make them ff and go full AP but if they don't ff, late game you're really going to fall short and do poorly but I did as good before with the normal items I'm using. Trade correctly, farm correctly, roam correctly and you'll be a bouncing beast.
