I'm slightly confused, you say that the best possible rune choice is "Coupe de Grace" yet in the rune section at the top you have "last stand". Is this just out of date?

Vapora Dark (624) | November 16, 2019 8:34am
Yes sorry, Last Stand is a really weird rune at face value and I didn't expect it to be so good on Aatrox when first deciding on runes. I've since seen it's the best performer on him but forgot to change the text, I'll try and get it sorted right now.

This is really out of date, it says you can still revive when that hasn't been a thing for months, update this please, or don't put "9.20"

Sorry about that, removed the out-dated revive references, also updated some minor stuff in the cheat sheet.

You think Garen is potentially a matchup that could beat Aatrox? I realise many of Aatrox's strengths can be good against Garen but since he is an spellcaster top laner, that silence can be troublesome. Just asking your opinion on this.

Edit: As a followup, I experimented starting both a Doran's Blade and a Doran's Shield against a Garen and I think Blade was a little better.

Vapora Dark (624) | August 13, 2018 12:27pm
I imagine Garen probably is decent into Aatrox yes. He's actually pretty strong in general right now.

AbaddonSoulchain (16) | August 13, 2018 12:52pm
Well, despite that, I started Doran's Blade and played aggressively and Garen had a very problematic laning phase. He ended up using Decisive Strike to kill minions and at one point I had more than 20 over him. I think a more aggressive playstyle is better given his annoying passive.

Frankly it's embarrassing that I took this long to make a follow up review but here goes:

Grasp of the Undying as a keystone is showing success on Aatrox, but it may not be the best keystone to pick against ranged champions. Might I suggestion Arcane Comet as a situational keystone?

Precision is not the best secondary rune choice on Aatrox. Not only does it give you less attack damage, which Aatrox craves, but it gives you attack speed, which is more or less a useless stat on him. Domination as a secondary is showing better numbers overall on Aatrox.

Some of the tool tips in your guide are still incorrect.

And now for nitpicking, Aatrox is more a juggernaut than a diver, he's not tanky enough to live through surviving in the enemy back line, his kit is too slow to allow him to sustain enough to allow him to sustain through surviving in the enemy back line, and all the revive will do is delay your death by a few seconds, and last but not least, a 300 range dash is not enough to give him a good position onto the enemy back line to begin with.

Hopefully you will continue to update the Aatrox guide as, lets be real, the other guides are Aatroxious :^) and this is the best one there is.

Don't sweat it! Making a review at all is already kind enough.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll look into adding it as a secondary page.

You're right, I've changed it to Domination.

Hopefully fixed everything now, they should be correct as long as the MOBAFire tooltips are correct.

Yeah I commented to Skittle after my first game of the new Aatrox that he felt a lot more like a juggernaut than a diver. I've now changed the references to him being a diver.

That's why it's here. :^)

Thanks for the review, it helped me get a lot fixed!

By the way, do you have an estimation of what would be the best setup for jungle Aatrox? I've used Electrocute as a keystone and it seems to work mostly but some people make a good case about Dark Harvest too. They also seem to like maxing W first instead of Q.
1
Vapora Dark (624) | July 25, 2018 3:12am
Sorry for the late response, forgot to reply to this. I haven't seen any jungle Aatrox but I would assume Electrocute would be much better than Dark Harvest. W max sounds interesting, but I'm pretty sure Q max would give you faster clears, especially on non-raptor camps.

AbaddonSoulchain (16) | July 25, 2018 10:52am
No worries, I appreciate the feedback all the same. Electrocute may be better since Aatrox isn't so much of a power farmer and Q will give him better camp clear and gank dmg than cc. I am a bit concerned with his recent nerfs though but I will play him again definitely.
