October 6 - Started Guide

Vladimir - Aka "The Broken One"

First off, before you get your hands on Vladimir, lets establish a few things. He is not considered a nuker, or a pure dps, but a hybrid, some play him as a tank, some a nuke, and just about any other possibility.

However in my experience I find straight Ability Power / Health to be the strongest build for Vladimir.

Pros -

Huge health pool
High ability power late game
Very strong carry
Anti gank spell.
Ultimate is very team viable.

Cons -
Very gear reliant late game, if you fall behind, you stay behind.
Zerg target once you are geared.
Worthless until level 5 (Most say 7)
You will have to compete for solo lanes with stupid people.

Summoner Skills


Ghost - Interchangeable with Flash if you are good at flash, though i personally find ghost better for running from ganks.

Ignite - Required no matter what, I cannot imagine playing Vladimir without it. Gives extra dps, stops healing, and allows you to tag people fleeing to finish the rest of your group off.

Alternative though not Recommended options.

Flash - Decent, allows for better tower dives and sometimes escape. Though inferior to ghost in my opinion.

Exhaust - Decent early game as if Garen is trying to be offensive, you can blind him for escape and such.

Heal - No.
Teleport - No.

Everything Else - No.


Marks - Magic penetration, good for early bonus damage, and later against tanks.

Seal - Vitality, i recommend this as it is really the only viable seal, and health gives ap and health.

Glyph - Celerity, I choose Cooldown Reduction because I find cooldown reduction to be a lifesaver allowing you to use your ultimate, and pool of blood more, not so much transfusion with its already so short cooldown, but a great game changer with blue buff and 20 soulstealer stacks.

Other Options - Honestly I have only tried these, so as far as other options go i'm taking recommendations.


Vladimir's Abilities

Crimson Pact

Every 25 points of bonus health gives Vladimir 1 ability power and every 1 point of ability power gives Vladimir 2 bonus health (does not stack with itself).

This passive ability, one of the strongest in the game in my opinion, really makes Vladimir what he is. This passive is why I suggest stacking only Health, Ability Power, and magic penetration (as any caster should).

Vladimir drains the lifeforce of his target, dealing 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+60% of ability power) magic damage and healing himself for 25% (+100% of ability power) of that amount.

Cooldown 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4 seconds | Range 550

As much as I want to say this is the strongest ability, all of Vladimir's abilities are very strong. This ability heals, deals massive damage, and has almost no cooldown, especially late game.

Sanguine Pool
Vladimir sinks into a pool of blood for 2.5 seconds, becoming untargetable and slowing enemies above him by 50%.

Vladmir deals 15% of his bonus Health in magic damage over the duration and heals himself for 12.5% of that amount.

Cooldown 22 seconds | Cost 20 percent of health | Range 1050

This ability is basically the source of all complaints to Vladimir, and one of the strongest, it can be used for 4 things.

1. Escaping gank, prevents being targetted.
2. Chasing someone, does damage and slows them while you let transfusion/tides of blood CD.
3. Tower diving, after tower diving and you kill someone, this will make the tower untarget you.
4. Team fights, this will keep all damage off of you, do plenty of AOE damage, and keep everyone rallied together.

Tides of Blood
Vladimir unleashes a torrent of blood dealing 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 (+45% of ability power) magic damage to nearby enemies.

Each cast gives him an Empowered stack (max 4), increasing his healing and regeneration by 8% each. Additionally, his next Tides of Blood deals 25% more damage and costs 50% more Health per stack.

Cooldown 8 seconds | Cost 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 health | Range 300


This ability is the weakest of the bunch, though do not get me wrong this is a great end game ability. End game, fully geared, this ability hits for over 700 damage and increases healing gained by transfusion, and does AOE. Therefor, in a 5v5 match you will do about 3000 damage from ONE spell alone.

Vladimir infects the target area with a virulent plague. Affected enemies take 10 / 14 / 18% increased damage for 5 seconds.

After 5 seconds, infected enemies take 200 / 300 / 400 (+75% of ability power) magic damage.

Cooldown 120 seconds | Cost 15 percent of health | Range 700


This ability, however at first sight, seems like a nice AOE that lets you deal more damage in a team fight and such, is MUCH MUCH more. This ability is great because it is an AOE spell that you put on the ground. Therefor, it has a longer range than normal spells as it can be placed at the end of the range circle and reach further in its AOE circle.

If someone is tower hugging with 200 hp, and no pool of blood diving is ready, just max range ulti him, and it will kill him.

Items -

I have based all of this off of his guide, and i base all of my Success off of his guide, go +1 his guide if you will for me.


First item boots of speed / health potion.

This is a very unusual start for Vladimir, and I receive comments on it all the time. This is because, first you have plenty of stats from glyphs, and a +180 health item isn't game breaking. If you cant 1v1 someone, 180 health wont change anything.

50 Speed however, is game changing, This will allow you to be on par with any other char with boots, so he cannot out pressure you, allows you to run to him and transfusion/run faster, and many other things.

This also allows you money for a health potion, unlike other builds +180 health or a 200 health potion. Which do you want?

After boots, i suggest the soul stealer. This is also unusual for such early game, but in my case, I can nab a good 5 kills before reaching level 10. So why waste all those kills, start charging your soul stealer.

This soul stealer is also very important as at 20 stacks you will get 15% cooldown reduction.

The haunting guise is good, as its decently cheap, and has spell penetration and all the other stats you need.
However, it may be skipped over if you need to get Rylais/Zhonyas quicker for team fights.

Rylais is hand down, giving massive health and ability power, which scales well with your passive, and its slow is good for AOE pool of blood in team fights, it gives you a ton of control.

The Zhonyas is neccesary for any caster, giving you an increase in ability power, and the invulnerability, the invulnerability turns your 7 or so second CD pool of blood (after CDR items and such) into a 5 second with 2 invulnerable.

Last I suggest a guardian angel, because no one is immortal.

Nothing is more game changing than losing 6 stacks of soulstealer from a zerg or gank or bad team fight. Therefor guardian angel will allow you a bit more armor/mr for survivability, and a chance to finish off the weak, or escape with your stacks alive.



These items are purely circumstantial. I will add to the list as I find new items that are worthwhile.

Void Staff - This is good as if you fight Mordekaiser as i did one game and nearly killed myself from rage. This will give tanks a good fight, stacking with boots and Guise if you still have it, allowing you to still deal damage to tanks, because Vladimir really is, a one man army.

Differences Between 3v3 and 5v5
This guide really has a double purpose, this serves equally for 3v3 and 5v5, without any changes, i play it exactly the same.

You should be solo laning in both cases, though double laning will not affect much, except your ability to gank and therefor charge your soul stealer. Plus, Vladimir can get every last hit by himself, not doable in a double lane.

Early game to me, is really from levels 1-5, once you hit level 5, start pressuring. Until level 5 you have no offensive abilities, other than transfusion and rank 1 tides of blood, neither of which have a decent cooldown or damage output. Level 5 is when you should start pressuring.

If you transfusion your opponent every time transfusion is up, he should be 1/2 health by level 7. At level 7 simply, Transfusion/Hemoplague/Tides of Blood/Ignite/Pool of Blood and they are dead. This works 90% of the time, the only exceptions being tower huggers, and things like mordekaiser which can take you out too, if you dont wait for the right moment.

Mid Game -
Once you hit level 7 you are now in mid game. Mid game, can be played two ways, ganking or hard laning. Ganking is very easy for you, by repeating the same combo stated above for early game, you can get double kills in any lane as long as your team can wear them to 1/2 health first. (remember if they have heal, ignite first because they will impulse heal most likely).

Ganking - At level 7 your transfusion has a low enough cooldown to do damage. Go gank. Simple as that, try not to be obvious about leaving, or they will call mia, i.e. click recall or something, be creative. Tell your friends ahead of time; your pool of blood slows, so they can do all the damage if you can slow them long enough.

Laning - Laning is my preffered strategy in 5v5 if my team is confident. You can hold the middle lane without going B for atleast 15 minutes, not recommended but just proof of how strong Vladimir is. If you NEVER leave the lane except for item upgrades, and kill your 1v1 every ultimate CD, you will gradually gain a level advantage, simply stay middle lane, and you will rise above everyone in levels. You should be able to handle any attempted ganks with a few wards and cooldown management.

Just for perspective - if you try laning my record is reaching level 18, while the enemy team was just breaking level 12. This is due to getting 7 kills, 4 on the laner, and 3 gankers. If you are in a group with friends that can handle their ****, you should be able to start ganking level 12s with atleast 10 soul stealer stacks, making you basically invincible and putting you on victory road.

Late Game

Vladimir's scaling curve slows down towards late game, he is really strong because he can get a level advantage and win games early, my record being 5v5 17 minutes. If everyone reaches 18, and as much gear as you, you lose the carry title, and become a utility with your slow and ultimate, and are no longer a one man army.

At level 18 with all your buffs, 20 stacks, and the core item build you will have i believe over 5000 health, over 700 ability power, and ~50% cooldown reduction. You will be the gank target at all times and life will be much more difficult for you, it is important to use pool of blood at the correct times, and to stay back and let tanks tank, and to split but not take all the damage. You are a massive AOE damage output, you should not let yourself die first.

NOTE: I will go through this again and edit it, i really just wanted to pump it out before night so i could hopefully start getting comments, i will spell check, capitalize my i's and make sure everything is correct when i can.
