JPEG by format definition does not support transparency.
Open up GIMP, render out the background and then save it as a PNG/GIF or any other non-jpeg format.

I was busy the last hour to create a signature for my MOBAfire account.
You can see the result in my signature (obviously).
As I don't have photoshop, I had to use GIMP.
But the hardest part was to find a rendered Twisted Fate and to make GIMP do what I want, not what it wanted to do.
Well, like I said, rate my signature and don't be too harsh, it's my first attempt :)
