Early game, most champions should only be last-hitting with autoattacks, except for those like Nasus, Veigar, Karthus, Gangplank and Annie who have last-hitting abilities.
When you need to farm a big minion wave mid game, or you need to push quickly, you can just switch on your ult with swain to kill minions quickly. You COULD use your W as well, but it's usually better to reserve that for a snare on an enemy champion.
Side note: Blue buff is your friend. If you have blue, you can have your ult on a lot of the time for fighting, farming and healing.

My other main champs are Morgana, Nasus, Maokai and Olaf and each of them have a pretty easy time of farming in the early to mid game. It's not hard for me to lay down an Aoe and eat up gold. But with Swain I'm having a hard time dealing with his frailty early against another champs, while also farming.
Maybe I'm just a bad player or Swain isn't my type. But for the others who know Swain in and out, could I have some help in how to properly farm gold with him.
