morgana-cassiopea, brand-annie.
these are the best mid champs atm, all farm very easily and without being easy targets.
Morg and cassio are more focused on farming and doing constant damage/utility in teamfights throu building less AP and more survivability.
Brand and Annie are more burst focused, their farm is riskier than their non-fiery counterparts but they can destroy a champ in one rotation.
I personally like morg and cassio better.

Actually Brand's passive means you can easily just drop your targetted E on them occasionally and simply auto attack from time to time for really outstanding harass in lane.
And it's almost free harass against a lot of champs, because his AA animation and projectile speed are excellent, and his attack speed is quite decent for an AP caster.
If you can just DoT with your E and keep your passive ticking often, his harass is high impact and low cost.

In mid its better to use an ap carry, because you are more close to the blue buff, and dont worrie about ganks... that is one of the job of the jungler early/mid game, you should focus on farm and assist you team in that gaming phase (dragon, teamfights etc.) And a pair of wards will save you from any gank.
Morgana is a great counter-mid assuming that they take AP mid. Spell shield , awesome , Tormented soil, great harras and farm, Snare, Great harras and damage , ulti , OP.
And or else u could try Brand, Malzahar, Anivia.

Thanks to Plickz and Alexanpt for the awesome Sigs!
Well personally I believe that Kassadin is a very powerful mid champ. His supremely powerful, low cost silence really hurts ANY champ, granted this is just based on my own experience.
Another interesting mid would be "sucky old Ez" as some refer to him as, he is a champ with what I believe to be one of the most rewarding skillset. I'll type more tomorrow when I am not on my IPod

When it comes down to using a champ for midlane, anyone with sufficiently good farming and/or powerful enough burst will often be what you're looking for. Meaning that you have quite a few to choose from.
All of the champs mentioned above are very solid midlane choices, but I'd like to add a few for my personal suggestions:
Akali, Caitlyn, Gangplank, Karthus, Kennen, LeBlanc, Soraka, Vladimir.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying that these are the best picks. These are just strong choices at various gameplay levels, in addition to the champs already mentioned before.

Anivia, tough as balls to play as, but if you're up for the challenge and can learn her well then your troubles will be rewarded.
