I thought the rule was only use le regardless of what comes after... Guess it has changed? but yeah plural le is les and normally le should be replaced by la if the noun that comes after is of the female gender.
example: The world = Le world
The girl = La girl

Actually you can't do it like that with male and female. In english all words (except persons) don't have a gender. That's why you would to translate the whole Thing to french in order to find out the gender. But then you would have to use the article together with the french word because using a female article on a word that doesn't have a gender sounds weird.
Just use "le" for everything and it will be fine. XD
