I think it's actually a good idea to archive out-of-date builds after patches.
I'd even propose using an internal versioning system for *all* guides, with which the authors would manually have to update after every patch (or simply confirm that there's no change), and out-of-date guides would be slightly dimmed out on the index with a message placed at the top or similar.
Sure, it's frustrating not to have the best builds up there anymore, but it's even more frustrating to have outdated builds. I *still* see people using Malady-based carry builds after the Malady change, to give an example.
Going even further it might be a good idea to add a versioning system for items as well, so outdated guides can link to outdated versions of items, but their icon would be tinted red and when rolling over you'd be notified of their outdated status. That way builds relying on the old Malady/Black Cleaver would still be accurate for reference. (The same could be implemented for deleted items like Zhonya's Ring and Innervating Locket, so newcomers wouldn't end up frustrated when trying to buy a nonexistant item at a certain stage in a guide)

Not that i agree with what has been done. But mabye the reason for doing it is a honest one.
