Not sure what I'd do if my picks fell out of meta. I've generally been a tier 2 (going by Throat's tier list) and not cared to play tier 1s just cos they're 1. Try them, sure, but I didn't enjoy 
Anivia, Lux or Diana enough try and main them (I dunno if they're still t1 atm, I feel the mobility in the meta and fotm picks hurt Lux, at least. Also I lied, I used to main her, but started to fall off). It would be a different matter however if my picks dropped out of tier 2. I'm already kind of pissed at the mobility I'm seeing hurting my skill-shot based picks and I'd be resentful if my mains became weaker, but I probably would play them less and start maining something else because I hate to feel weak. I get enough of that feeling from my play, never mind my picks :P Fortunately, I don't think Orianna is likely to become weak anytime soon. Certainly seen her a fair bit in the pro scene.
It's a different matter outside of mid, I don't have the time invested in champs in other roles that I do in mid so switching champs is easy in terms of relative levels of skill and levels of attachment. I don't think I'd be too fussed if Jarvan IV fell down and it became better to play something else so long as there are tier 1 picks I enjoy. I suppose Sejuani counts as something I stopped playing because of falling off, although she's my fall back for a tank if J4 is banned/taken. I'm not really bothered though because I don't particularly care for her play style, I just liked her because my first match with Sej was also the first game I actually did good as a jungler.
