It made sense when I typed it.
Basically, what I'm trying to say, people pay too much attention to the meta and opinionated tier lists.
Example game I played:
The enemy team had no support and the AP mid was pissed at their last pick. Their last pick was panth who laned with a Cait. They ended up winning the game because of the Panth who fed Caitlyn. We couldn't do **** with our "perfect" meta team.
Good players > good meta keeping. Don't expect to win your game because you had a "perfect meta team" and they didn't, and blame it on 'feeders' when you do.
Play good and you'll win anyway, you shouldn't be so bothered about having a "perfect meta team", though it does help.
So, you'll get bad players on your team as much as they do, hence, if you play well, you'll EVENTUALLY rise in Elo, no exceptions. It's a BS system for soloqueue in the first place, but hey - Hotshot didn't get #1 and 2 in the world simultaneously by accident.

The metagame is a metagame for a reason. The metagame isn't something pros make up, it's there whether people explain it to you or not. You don't have to listen to what the pros say, but a lot of the time they're right about what's most effective at winning the game (the metagame) since they win the most games.
The metagame doesn't mean that every team must have the same teamcomp. In the game you refer to with Panth, Panth acted as a support because he stunned the enemy and took the heat, so that Cait could do the damage (think Taric). Most champs can be used effectively as long as they have a team built to include them, this is why some champs are bad in solo queue but still viable in premades.
And you should pay attention to tier lists, because they have some value. The ones at the top are probably at the top because they are consistently powerful in the games the writer has played. This doesn't mean that they're right about every champ, but it will give you a quick insight at what the pros consider powerful, that's what they're for. They're not there to tell you who to play. You should also pay attention to tier lists because you will know what's the most popular, and then can ban the champs people are counting on playing!

Well spoken Mowen.
I will say that the pro's DO get ahead of themselves sometimes because they're bored of playing what GOT them to high Elo.
It's always fun to check the pro in question's ranked stats and see WHO he's really winning games with, and who he is just theory crafting about :)

I played a game versus a pantheon, blitzcrank, ryze, anivia, and caitlyn.
My team thought we were gonna destroy with our "good meta team" while I was thinking "They all have some type of hard CC. ****."
Yeah, we lost that.
