John you must have played a bad ziggs than. There are few champs Ive had issues with, and even then, they dont beat me by much... Unless Im caught off guard.

Ziggs is mad powerful. He's like Ryze in that he's DPS instead of burst.
His cooldowns are terrible on all skills other than his Q. Thankfully, it's a high enough damage skill that it's worth it.
Comparatively, his W is quite low damage but creates some serious space if thrown on yourself and your assailant. The closer your are to the satchel, the farther you fly.
For damage comparisons on his E, if you land it right on top of them, i.e. right in the middle, it will do as much damage as another Q, give or take a few points of damage.
His ult, annoying to hit with. If it hits, 90% AP ratio at the center. You can also use it for vision. It's best used in team fights when people are too unorganized to get out of the radius. You can use it to snipe, it's just far less effective.
Good items are Morello's, Deathcap, Rylais, Sorcs. Spell vamp is decent, but not really preferred because all of your skills are AoE.
