This is a good way to waste IP.
Look at tier lists (mine for example) and pick champions that are strong. Check the 'featured matches' in the lobby often to see who the pros are playing. Don't pick champions with cool lore. All lore is ****. It's super tacked on. Just pick champions that you feel would complement your playstyle and are also high tier.
The end. Nothing else needs to be said.

Well like he said he doesn't really care about that. Not everyone plays LoL for the same reasons and that's fine.
Personally I mostly buy and play champions based on strength myself, though being fun for me to play is important and looking cool/having good skins is a bonus. If I think something isn't fun or it looks really ****py I won't play it no matter how OP it is.

I must disagree with your opinion. (I do understand and respect it, mind you.)
Not /all/ lore is ****. I quite like the Demacia/Noxus rivalry. I think most lore of the game is actually pretty interesting and in my point of view it all ends on what one enjoys the most in this game. Sure, there are champions that right now are top tier and that are played a lot by many "pros". I've seen a lot of

Also my aim in this game is not to be a pro, is to have fun. If I can't have fun in this game, I won't be playing it. But my idea of fun doesn't have to be your idea of fun.
And I'd like to point out that what for you is a waste of IP, for me it isn't, and for other players might be the same situation. Also most champions I buy actually fill my style of playing. So yeah, there's that.
;)

I did like his lore :/ But he never really trully interested me.

Honestly, all champions get boring in league because most of them don't have a very high skill cap. (I'm not saying mechanics btw, those are what make you good) Just buy whichever you want, even if you don't like them the first time, you can come back to them and maybe they'll be fun then (:
I just buy random champions, i've wasted a lot of ip buying 6300 champions never to play again :(

you should try looking at kits and pick which kit the champions have that you like, or the ideas based behind champions
like i dont think singed has a good lore but i got him because of his kit being the "run around and poison everyone" kit
and with naut ive always liked the idea behind him being left behind and such
i do see where youre coming from but if your tastes are about lore and appearance i dont think we can help you pick a champion unless you describe what you like about said champions
also i feel the same way about not buying champions from certain places from the lore, i dont get demacian champions ever

I do like the kits from certain champions. For example, I love

And I'm just gathering some arguments because I'm interested in people's opinions on certain matters (like this one), therefore, I'm not trying to find out a perfect champion for me. It was not my point to start with.
Demacia has some cool champs, though. I quite like

The other day I was discussing this with my flatmates (who are also LOL players and by far better players than me): when you want to buy a new champion, what do you search for? (Mainly because they think I'm very picky with my champions)
This is a question for all of you. (If there is already a topic about this, do let me know)
For me, I search mainly for which lore's city he/she belongs. For example, I'm not a fan of Noxus and Ionia, so I will probably not buy a champion from those cities. But if it is from Piltover, I might be interested. Piltover and Frejlord are my favourite cities in Valoran although Zaun is only interesting in the lore really rather than in champions (I really don't like any Zaunites).
Then it's that particular champion's lore. For example, I bought
I do enjoy the lore of the game a lot and I like to read the champion's history so I know their motives and why they're on the League. That was mainly the thing that got me into playing the game rather the game itself when I first tried LOL.
Those are mainly the criteria I chose, although there are other specific cases.
For example, the looks. I must confess I didn't think much about the other two when I started playing, and I couldn't wait until I got enough IP for
Other example is that specific champion's role in the rift. I'm in love with AD Carries, so if there is an interesting AD Carry I will probably save enough IP to buy her/him (or wait until the champion is free to try it out). I'm also starting to get my attention on Assassins, and I play on buying
But something I don't exactly search in a champion is how OP it can be. I play League for fun, really, and to enjoy the lore and the art of some champions and to have a good time. I don't really care how bad a champion is right now on a specific role, nor I do care if this champion is better than the other and that I should have picked that one instead of the one I actually picked for a game. Thinking about how OP a champion can be kind of kills the fun for me. (This might sound really noobish, but it's how I play the game.)
I'd like to know what do you search in a champion; what makes you want to buy that champion.
PS: On another note, I've realized that I mainly buy female champions... How interesting. Well, gotta love the female body, if you know what I mean. *wink*
