It's ok with friends. But it's pretty weird when random 12-year-old kid hears you make a small league comment in a Magic: the Gathering game with a friend, comes over and asks to add you in League coz he's smurfing.

Yer I love the game, but for some reason can't get used to the idea of talking about video games IRL. Seems to be a real barrier for me even though it seems like the norm these days between my friends.

Because people don't talk about the game like it's a sport - people talk about the game like they're antisocial addicted gamers who have never held proper conversations with other people.

To be fair, that's how people talk about Football too. Just replace "gamer" with "Fantasy Football player".

There's a big difference between fantasy football and sports but even so most times people who follow actual sports play the sports and know when or when not to talk about stuff in public. The same can't be said for leaguers.
