HSGG said that, the best player in da werld.
His statement was specific to supports like Janna with massive CC, so you have to deal with them or get CC'd forever. But since they are tanky, the supports team gets plenty of chance to beat on your head afterwards.

They ARE similar, but not melting together.
How I usually see the roles.
Tank: generate threat (damage, cc, debuffs, initiation), sustained presence,
Supports: vision, team sustain, cc, imediate presence with possible sustain.

You are right. They have somethings alike, but, as you said, tanks initiate fights and can take a fking damage. Supports give auras to the teammates, heal, shield, they support the team.
And?

Ok, but what about champions like Alistar? Hes one of the best Supports, as i remember it. But you can also play him as a tank, his ultimate is really good for that purpose. Every time i played suppot Alistar, i felt like a tank who said hes not a tank. With some items. You can be easy both i think.
No. Ali is not a tank.
He is a meaty support but he's not a tank.

Alistar is the junction point, he's much like a tank as long as his ult permits. Point is as a support per se he's worst than the 3 mighty ****s (Janna-Sona-Soraka) has he provides no steroids for it's team outside of item auras.
Nah Ali used to be a tank back before they nerfed his Q when it was like a super long stun I believe (This may be wrong I just remember it having a longer stun effect correct me if I'm wrong) but after he was changed and after they changed his passive he became the AP Ali that we all enjoyed and loved. Then his ratio's got nerfed and this in my opinion didn't really affect I feel he still viable AP he was only so good as AP because of his Versatility he could take up 3 roles in a team fight, the dps, the support with his heal and the tank when he ulti'd HE STILL HAS ALL OF THIS. However, he isn't the tank until he has his ulti and past this point he isn't a tank any more just a beefy support.

I agree with this.
If you should build Ali any kind of way, it should be CDR.
Getting his headbutt/pulv down to like 5-6 seconds is nasty.
But, a lot of people i feel don't really understand alitstar's ultimate.
They think that it's a synergy with health, so they buy warmog's as their first item.
But in fact, it has a synergy with Effective health, so it's better to buy resists first because of alistars large health pool.
In any case, I feel Alistar should stack on the Aura items, and get a little CDR.
0/21/9, resist runes, Merc Treads, Randuin's Omen, Aegis, Will of the Ancients, Shurelya's Reverie, then a situational defense item maybe would go in your six slot, most likely a GA or a FoN or something like that, maybe QSS.
That's what i would build on him anyways :s.

So, please, don´t just flame me if i´m telling ******** ok? :)
I remember there was a Thread a while back, about a "pro"? who said that supports should be build more tanky?
I mean, if you look at the roles of support and tanks, they are kinda similar. Farm less, so there is more to farm for the carrys. Warding. CC. Support. The kinda, only difference i´m see is that tanks should initiate and well tank^^.
So, if now supports are build more like a tank, the play style and builds are similar. Where is the difference? Or why should you just take a support or a tank. If some Champions can function as both, the same time?
