AP tf used to be the ****, now ad tf is almost as popular(although i still prefer ap)
The utility ap tf brings to the table with his split pushing is just monumental, also his burst is quite good(not the best though). Also makes his mid game lane presence better(which is at the moment pretty much the only reason to pick tf)

You used to be able to. Not anymore.
Reason why AP TF is so preferred now is that, he has super high range on a decently scaling skill; terrible AA range; AP scaling on everything for real strong burs every 4 attacks.
You can still play AD TF, it's just not as effective as AP to most people though.
