Supports can't push down towers.

Supports can't even push lanes.

Taric, Soraka, Leona, Alistar, Blitzcrank, Lulu, Thresh, Zilean, and Zyra all have large AoE moves they can use to clear waves. While it is uncommon for many of these champions to one-shot minion waves with a single skill while building as a support, half killing all non-cannon creeps is still pushing the wave. (And I think someone hasn't ever seen an AP support.)

As far as whether or not supports can "carry", who cares? Carrying is only really important insofar as it makes you win games. And you win games by doing what you're good at. So if you're good at support, play support.

There is only so much the support can do. If the ADC is rather incompetent (to put it nicely) then your going to have some problems.

Thing is, I'm not too sure if sacrificing yourself (as the support) to save your carry is a good idea, seeing that a kill is a kill reguardless.

The 4 support example is irrelevant. We're talking about carrying bad people in soloqueue, not organized strategy.

They help other people, usually your ADC, carry the game.

Say again how my example was irrelevant? Organised play, soloqueue, what does it matter? Supports have it hardest when it comes to carrying simply because generally they are the most team reliant.

Support is the hardest because you have zero gold.

Zero gold, zero damage, zero recognition within your team (soloQ mainly).

Usually fall to the support to provide all the vision, make calls, have map awareness and, more often than not, the support is ignored.

support is the hardest role to carry because the game is mostly up to your teammates hand. lets make an analogy.

A phenotype is a plant's physical characteristic. this is the support.
A genotype is the plant's gene type. this is your team.

the rule of thumb in crop science is that a phenotype can't exceed the max trait the genotype can show.

for short: the support can't do anything much to "carry" the game with a reckless, idiotic and a noob team. but a support can HELP "carry" a game with a well communicating one. so carrying using a support all depends on how your teammates function. No matter how good a support is, if the one he is supporting has no clue of the game then GG.

It is that you are dependent on them for the fighting, and they depend on you for, errr supporting.
+rep if i helped or if you just happen to like repping ^^

Supports have the CC, they make a good portion of the calls in bot lane. It's harder to "carry" with, as you are mostly just setting up favorable trades for your carry.

a non-reactive or just bad carry can be carried/fed by a good support player a lot of the time. The flipside is, though, if you (as a support) make too many bad calls you lose bot lane by default pretty much.

not exactly the kind of carrying you were thinking of though, more like metaphorically carrying the ADC on your back. :P

A support cannot carry on its own, that's a fact. Though ****ing up the enemy's warding and making sure you've got enough map awareness is a really good start to get the team going.

^ this.

there is a reason supports are called supports and not carry (ADC or APC).

no doubt a good support can change the tide of a match but they can't just go out and own by themselves like some snowballing carries can. jungle and mid have the biggest impact imo. I agree with Psi.
