he doesn't do anything particularly well. His pillar is pretty good for ganks but that's about it. He can get to a point where he is almost unkillable and tanky but that takes a while. Subpar damage, not really tanky early on, medium clear speed, mediocre ganks. all those reasons are probably why you dont see him

He's really only good as a counterpick. He was played a lot more when he was king of the jungle.

The reason you don't see a lot of trundle is because he can only do well with certain comps I find and the fact that he is really hard to use also doesn't help(well use properly). He can be a good couner pick to some people though.
3 things he's good at.
Counter-jungling, Tank shredding/killing, disabling.
Unfortunately, #2 is almost unreadable as it's basically flecks of **** floating around whoever you target.
If you need a mobile counterjungler, he's a good pick though. Try him some time.

He's kinda useless in teamfights, he's only good at tearing the carry but got no real close-ups making him vulnerable to all attacks while attempting to. Only single target abilities make jungling slow, or he's just simply outclassed by others.
