When you are new, you don't care about ranks.
Once you are less new, you think editors and scouts are representatives of the site, just like veterans, moderators and admins.
Once you are known with the site, you know that the editors and scouts can be just as much of an idiot as a guest :P
People become editor because admins alone just can't handle every update done with League of Legends, at least, not alone. So they decided it would be a smart idea to grant people access to the database that have certain credibility.
So being editor actually means nothing, except that you can now help the site by updating the database, and that you have 100+ rep :P
