Champion controll is extremaly important and in League of Legends is VERY easy.
(you should try original DotA :P)
1st of all i suggest learning the controll on casters or ranged champs. It gets messy if you go as a melee champion or tank that sits right inside the whole fight.
Make your screen moves small, just learn to "poke" the side of your screen with a mouse.
Also your sensitivity (or dpi of your mouse if you can change it) should be set more or less on that amount so you can easily move your screen by 1/3 and go back to pointing at your champion in very fast succesion. Play with some sensitivity options.
Never ever lock your camera permanently to your champion. It is considered ok only if you hold a space, but this screws up your mouse pointing.
And the most important thing. Anticipate. If you feel that you could get chased, your screen should already show more of your back instead of having your champ on the edge of it.
Also this vid could help you a bit.

Zoning is a great way to learn feeling the champion and how to position yourself.

I never knew... I always kept my screen locked as i found it easier than unlocked. I usually died when i played with it unlocked :/ I feel noobish now.
I wish...
Unlocking is SOOOOOO much easier to play. Try firing an EZ or Lux ult while locked. Miss!
I usually click a ridiculous amount on the minimap to look around and quickly spacebar back to center to my champion. Poking around the corners of your screen is very useful skill toi have. Team fights, it helps. Running away, it helps. Otherwise you'll probably want to try and right click or left click the minimap as much as possible. But to play at an efficient level I'd have to say definately: ALWAYS LEAVE YOUR CAMERA UNLOCKED. Screen scrolling sensitivity can be edited in-game.
Also, another important thing: Remove mouse accuracy "improve pointer precision", etc. It should be in your control panel->devices->mouse. Get used to how it is that way because with pointer precision on, you're ****ing yourself more than a horse on a girl.

Yea, basically what B-Wong does. Just always stay unlocked really, look around, but spacebar every few seconds unless you are on the summoner platform >.>
You'll get used to it

Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!
Well, ive got a lot lot lot better with it all now, i generally dont need to use my arrow keys anymore to move my map.
Good to hear, really, it just takes practice and getting used to. Just keep trying and you will get used to it! :) And like the others said, if you play with a locked camera because you don't like it you're going to hurt your gameplay rather than trying to get used to it now.
