Why would I need Attack Damage on Janna? I do not want to kill champions. When I said aggressive it meant that I like to take risks, such as trading hits on the lane, walking close to the enemies carry in the clash, chasing the fleeing enemy, when his health drops low and so on. No explanation is more comprehensive than 'playing with fire'.
The little boost of attack damage you'll get won't steal all of your AD's kills. If you want to force trades and win trades AD is going to do that a lot better than Magic Pen seeing as your abilities cost a lot of mana and do no damage. You can't call that aggressive play in any case.

To be fair I agree with you. But if I boost the basic attacks, I will surely have a need of moderate health regeneration rate. Which means that I must start with several potions, else I would not exchange hits enough to benefit from the runes and make them worth buying. It seems to be simple to use, but does Janna fit this playstyle? In other words, is she strong enough to break the enemies' micro and psych-them-out?
Well you preferably aren't going to get too many hits yourself. But naturally you go into lane with potions. As I said earlier Janna isn't an aggressive support and due to this she's going to be very underplayed in S4 since aggressive supports are in right now. She does absolutely no damage and while you can build AP she won't deal nearly as much damage as, say, Fiddlesticks or Annie at any point in the game.
The alternative would be maxing W first and poking your enemy with it the whole time. This derieves a lot of bonus ad from your shield, so it's situational, but certainly doable in given circumstances.
Building some ap would be pretty decent here methinks.

Tah beh, or nat tah beh. BOOM! Nat tah beh.
But if I boost with AP it will be pretty straightforward and in case of gang I have no chances. While boosting the AD lets me store generous amount of mana. In fact, if I upgrade the zephyr "w", it will let me land more effectively the hits, so just like a bonus hit, which outnumbers the boost of the AD given from the shield. But this will only work against melee, because if the enemy is range hero, he can just stand my basic attacks and damage me from range. But if I upgrade the shield, and there is range against me, the shield will not just block few basic attacks, but will grant me more AD, which will lead to effective trading of hits. The disadvantage of the first case is that I will need more time to land the hits. In the second it is that the enemies will be able to step back instant on full speed. I think that Janna fits this playstyle after all and the bonus movement speed she has, makes her one of the greatest trade exchangers. It depends on your micro and how well you choose the time to step forward to hit and how much hits to land depending on the target's behavior. I define her as aggressive and I think that she is underestimated in most of the times.
