Or just go for the 2500k, cuz it's really only marginally slower than the 2600/2700.

It's not a necessity, but I understand it so that it's moderately or highly beneficial when rendering? Also; Isn't the 2700K better when it comes to OCing?

Oh, and any good mainboards I should consider? I've been looking around, but just can't land on anything.

There's really not much of a difference between the 2600k and the 2700k
I'm not sure about performance of hyperthreading while rendering, might find some benchmarks on google or something.

Mobos... not too sure about this one.

I think that hyperthreading helps about 5-10% faster rendering. There is almost no difference between 2600K and 2700K but there is slight difference between these 2 and 2500K since 2500K has no hyperthreading. And I don't think there is much difference in overcloking between these 3 processors.

As for OCing, shouldn't newer and better parts be better? More durable, etc.

Well i7 2600K and i5 2500K were released at same time, Q1 2011, so I don't see how one could be better than other. 2700K was released not so long ago in Q4 2011, but as far as I know they all use same technology and coolers(if you buy box version).

Like almost everybody in this thread said. If you want so spent like 20% more for like 1-5% improvement, go for it. But if you want to go for performance/price you should go with 2500K for games, streaming and such or 2600K for rendering and such options that gain from hyperthreading.

Anyway, good for you, no matter if you take 2500K, 2600K or 2700K you'll have a beast of a computer.

The prices aren't that harsh in Norway.

2500K is 1500 NOR Krone (go use a currency calculator).
2600K is 2500 NOR Krone
2700K is 2100 NOR Krone

2600K is actually the most expensive one :P And I don't want the i5, so. We'll see. I'll consider the 2600K.

How the hell can you have 2600K more expensive than 2700K? xD
