Trinity/Sheen/Lich Bane are all physical damage, regarded as spells (for the sake of spell vamp and spell shields), and can not critically hit.
Or at least that's what i've observed...
But is the damage from them affected by armor/MR? In the case of Devastating blow, all damage is converted to magic damage (According to Wikia, anyway).
For instance, since poppy has 117 base attack, if it isn't affected by anything Sheen would be a strait +117 damage to DB.
If it's converted to magic damage and then affected by MR, it would do only 82 points of damage (117 * .70 = 82, .70 being the rough reduction rate with 43.5 MR)
If it isn't converted to magic damage and is affected by armor, it would add only 65.7 points of damage (Assuming 78 armor)

So, the physical auto attack portion can crit, is affected by life steal, and is mitigated by armor.
The 8% and the bonus magic damage can not crit, are both affected by spell vamp, and are mitigated by Magic Resist.
The Trinity Force does Physical Damage, can not crit, is affected by spell vamp, and is mitigated by armor.
If i'm getting everything.
Edit: If Devastating Blow converts the entire thing to Magic Damage, it's tool tip is very vague about it, and that would would only change the "mitigated by" section of my post to Magic Resist in each case.
Tri lane for life.

So then Sheen is affected by magic resistance for DB (And, for everything else, armor).
So, if MR reduces by .7, all other damage does 100, and sheen does 100, it does 140 total damage (200*.7) rather than 170 (.7*100+100).
So a quick definition of Sheen would be simply that it doubles you base damage. The tooltip of "Your next standard attack deals extra damage equal to 100% of your base attack damage" made me believe that it was a flat addition to the total account ("extra damage" rather than "physical damage"). Stupid vague tooltip
Thanks for the clarification :)

I'm pretty sure everything is converted into magic damage, I can't find any source that says otherwise. The AD part of the attack can crit, and it'll be converted into magic damage with the sheen proc. MR will then reduce all parts of the attack as you've suggested (incl. the AD and Sheen parts). I think the sheen tooltip is ok, it's more that Devastating Blow is a funny move. It might be the only attack buff that does magic damage.
I think this also implies that all of DB will proc Spell Vamp and not lifesteal.
I used to go Gunblade on Poppy.

Trinity/Sheen is damage added to your attack (which is physical normally, but magical for devastating blow).
I think you've done a ton of unnecessary math.
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.
I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817

What math is unnecessary?
And none of this thread is about if trinity/sheen is magical or physical. It was a question (For that item) if it was affected by armor/magic resistance or if it was a flat rate.

So, Devastating blow is a physical attack (This part can crit), that has additional magic damage added (which is increased with AP), additional magic damage that is 8% of enemy's max health, stacks with trinity force, and turns the entire thing into magic damage.
(Side note: Is trinity force/sheen affected by MR/Armor? Or is it a flat number? The description lets me believe it's a flat number)
That would make the formula:
(Magic Defense)
DEF = 100/(100 + (MR * (1-MPEN%) - MPEN))
Where
MR = Enemy's magic resistance
MPEN% = Magic Penetration %
MPEN = Flat Magic Penetration
(Physical Attack)
PHYS = AD * ((1+CRIT) * (1+CRITDMG))
Where
AD = Attack Damage
CRIT = Critical strike percent
CRITDMG = Critical damage increase
(Magical Attack)
MAJ = 100 + (AP * 0.6)
Where
AP = Ability Power
(HP Attack)
dHP = eHP * 0.08
Where
eHP = Enemy's Max HP
(Trinity Attack)
TRIN = bATK * 1.5
Where
bATK = base attack
For a total formula of
DB = DEF * (PHYS+MAJ+dHP) + TRIN
(Different if Trinity is affected by MR, but that's an easy fix if I'm wrong on that)
So let us assume poppy hits an average enemy with no equipment/runes/masteries (2k health, 43.5 MR) and Poppy has no equipment/runes/masteries (0 AP, 117 AD, 0% crit, 0 MPEN). It would be
DEF = 100/143.5 = .697
PHYS = 117
MAJ = 100
dHP = 2000 * .08 = 160
DB = .697 * (117+100+160) = 263 damage
Now let's add a trinity force, sorc boots, and assumed the physical part crit attacked
DEF = 100/123.5 = .810
PHYS = (117+30) * 2 = 294
MAJ = 100 + 30 * .6 = 118
dHP = 160
Trinity = 117 * 1.5 = 175
DB = .810 * (294+118+160) + 263 = 726 damage
If it didn't crit, it would be 607 damage
If you calculated the crit% as a flat damage increase to get an average DB damage, it would be 625 damage
Is that correct? New to the game and have been reading the LOL's Wikia page and want to make sure 1) it's correct and 2) I put together everything correctly. Want to insure I buy the best items possible.
Thanks.
