But consider the cost ineffectiveness. Rather than get Visage/WotA, why not skip them altogether and just build more AP or defense?
I feel that Will is a VERY good AP AND Defensive item.
It gives you 80 ap for 2100g, it also gives your entire team 30ap and 25% spell vamp, and in a round about way, it synergizes with your passive.
I'd say that it, an Abyssal, and RoA or Rylai's are pretty core on Fiddle.
My usual fiddle builds is

This gives me 3k+ health, 93/98 resists, and gives me 620 ap with my runes.
4/17/9 for jungle, 3/21/6 for lane.
Tri lane for life.
WotA is kinda OP right now. They need to nerf the item cost to bring it in line with other items.
Not very OP, but 100 or 200 gold increase in cost wouldn't hurt.
4/17/9 for jungle, 3/21/6 for lane.
HAH, **** no.
9/0/21 for both.

Yeah, definitely 9/0/21 for Fiddlesticks no matter where you play him.
I like that build, but I would suggest replacing ROA with Zhonya's Hourglass.
Less health and mana, but some nice armor, a great active and AP equal to a matured ROA.
One more example of why Zhonya's is amazing on Fiddlesticks came from a game I played in earlier today. Their entire team is about to kill Baron and the rest of my team can't make it yet. Ult into Baron and immediately activate Zhonya's. Even though they were able to kill me after I came out of stasis, I was able to steal Baron and hurt their team a lot before my team got there. I forget I might have even gotten a kill with the initial burst.

A "matured" ROA gives 80AP. It would be super OP if it gave 100AP.

Yup, WotA feels like a 2400~ item more so than a 2100 item.
Don't hate cause i play tank fiddle :s
I know 9/0/21 is better, but i just think 4/17/9 is more fun.
I play 21/3/6 Rammus, with IE/Atmog's/PD/GA/Merc Treads, start the game with DBC, have 112 AD and 606 starting health.
Then late game i can grab a Jarvan and kill him from 100-0% with taunt+power ball.
I just like to have fun sometimes :p
Tri lane for life.

Jebus, fiddle does have drain, but you get EVEN MORE HP from it with spell vamp. It even heals you off of your other abilities. It's almost like not taking WotA on vlad because his Q heals him. XD
Vladimirs E increases his healing up to 32%, that's why Hextech Revolver/WoTA is exceptionally good on Vlad.
