How do you play Jungle Kha'Zix early game?

I find he snowballs great late game, but I often lag behind a lot early game in levels and CS. How do I clear faster with less recalls and keep up with the rest of the game? What masteries and runes work best?

Good late game? Not really.

There are a few ways to keep up in levels (you'll never catch up in CS, jungle creeps don't spawn fast enough, unless you're covering lanes 90% of the time)

1. Pull off fast, successful ganks. As long as you aren't wasting time (ie they just walk away) and sap 1-2 minion experience you should be fine.

2. 2 points into W should be all the HEALTH sustain you need, if you have a manaless mid you're golden. If you want to clear faster, max W first (bad idea imho) and get the W upgrade at 6 (also a bad idea imho)

3. Counterjungle and kill other jungler.

4. Build a Wriggle's Lantern as a LAST RESORT.

21/9/0 masteries work the best for assassins, but 9/21/0 would make you a bit more sustainable.

For runes, probably armor yellows + AD reds + AD quints all you need to survive.

I build wriggles 100% of the time. He's a slow, AA reliant jungler. The proc helps him solo dragon, one of his strong points, rather quickly too. Lastly, the free ward, as well as the proc, contributes to the counterjungling. So the better question is, why not make it?

I usually go Wriggles->Boots5->Hexdrinker. Start with boots+pots but only if you have someone who will give a good leash for you. You won't survive otherwise.

Runes I'm using are ArP reds, AD quints, Armor yellows, MR/lv blues.
21/9/0 masteries taking bladed armor for the speed and going pretty much down the right side getting 2 bonus damage to monsters/minions for the 4th point in the first level. I've been doing fine with this build for the most part.

EDIT: The key to ganking with Kha'zix is efficiency. If you leap on them and they flash, leave. If you can, past 6, gank like this. Leap, AA, stealth, AA, stealth, AA. That'll keep them locked up for the longest. Always try to come from either behind them or from a bush. That's just a general gank rule that goes doubly with Kha'zix.

I mean, personally I've found him to have a good late game. Harass from W, a bit of slow, range from his E. No?

I'm using the same runes as you except with AS reds. I'll try tweaking the masteries a bit though...

the range from E should be used like trists rocket jump late game

jump in get a kill, then jump out or jump to a new target

not as a harass like his W

Yeah that's how I've been using it. Speaking of that - in which order do you evolve? I've done W first, to clear faster. Then Q for damage. I tried evolving his R, but I found it didn't do too much. I evolved E last game and it helped a lot, so I might go for that now. In terms of skills, I've been putting 2 or 3 points into W then going R>Q>W>E

Just two notes: W is probably the second best upgrade you can get (only jump is better + evolved W applies passive! Free 150+ damage yeeeeeeeee) and maxing W in the jungle is actually really strong.

I've been doing R>Q>W>E for skill order and teh initial skill order in the jungle is as follows.

Q>W>Q>E>Q>R-evo E
It really helps in ganks.

It delays your damage items.

He's not AA reliant at all, Q is essentially a free Smite every 2 seconds assuming you're building damage, and 2-3 points in W lets you blow up the mini creeps quickly.

Also, why not AS reds if you're getting Wriggles?

Kha isn't a control jungler anyway, imo he's much better at killing stuff in ganks and killing the other jungler.

Not really, no.

The mob has to be isolated, which is kinda hard, and then it's only 12% of their missing health. It's also only that past level 6, at the earliest, and physical damage. Further limiting it's damage.
