This may surprise you, but I actually agree with you. It seems like we're saying opposite things, but we're not. My earlier post was just kinda badly explained.
Small burst damage, lone auto attacks, poke spells - Morde wins trade
Early followup harass, aggressive play from an autoattacker - Morde loses trade
Large burst damage, full nuke from a caster or full combo from a burst AD - Morde dies
Long drawn-out fights in late game where Morde has a chance to use multiple spell combos - Morde is a lot stronger.
I'd say that late game, Morde is vulnerable to burst and strong against sustained. In laning phase, Morde can absorb small pokes but is weak against aggressive, sustained damage.
I'll simply redact my statement about Morde's overall trade strength and 1v1 potential. I haven't played against him very much since his buff, so I may have overestimated his abilities.
