League of Legends (LoL) Question: Zilean Viable?

    Zilean Viable?

Personally, I have always like Zilean as a champion. And now that Tear of the Goddess is cheaper, I figure that his mana issues will be solved, yet I never seem to see any Zileans...

Overall I think AP Zilean mid is very underrated but he needs a team. I wouldn't consider running him in solo queue but I'm guessing he'd do very well in arranged queue. Now with the flask and all, I think Zilean can do very well in mid lane as sustain was his only real issue.

I do agree with Psiguard as in "doesn't fit the meta" similar to Xerath (both from shurima hmm...) He fits very well into a 'protect the carry' setup such as kog'maw or vayne.

Yes, one of the issues with any champion that provides revival is that some people aren't prepared to be revived. When you are working as a team, you can communicate with someone that they can go "balls deep" and dive on the AD Carry because Zilean can revive them. Also, in solo queue if you are playing Zilean everyone always complains if you revive someone over someone else.

I haven't seen AP Zilean in ages (I think I saw one in a professional level game since season 1). I think it's safe to say he doesn't really fit as an AP carry in the current meta. He just doesn't do enough carrying.

I've seen him support several times with some degree of success though. AP supports are much more viable in season three since Kage's Lucky Pick has more options to build into and supports are generally quite a bit richer than they were before, mostly due to Sightstone I think. If Zilean makes a comeback, I would expect to see him support.

For now, I'd say he's all right, but not as good as most of the other options for support and mid. If you're looking for a competitive pick, I wouldn't bother with him. If you're skilled and knowledgeable enough to actually play Zilean competitively, you probably wouldn't need to ask for opinions. That wasn't an insult by the way, I doubt even most pro players can play Zilean to full effect right now.

If you're not trying to play competitively, then it honestly doesn't matter if he's "viable" or not. Play whatever you enjoy.

Alex Ich played AP Zilean quite a few times during Season 2.
Reginald played AP Zilean once with TheOddOne on Rengar.

Zilean mid is one of my favorite champions. He has got overall a good spells for laning phase. Anyway he isn't a carry but a support champion with a good damage.

I'd have to agree with the above comments. He isn't very reliable in solo que. BUT, he does have insane harass and kill potential early game. You can bomb whoever you're laning against, and once they're are around half HP you can do your full combo. (Double bomb / Ignite) Another thing Zilean does really well is shut-down burst champions like Veigar or Katarina. Zilean can harass extremely hard and end up never dying to them due to his ultimate.

I do feel he falls off late game though. He is VERY squishy and absolutely relies on his team. He also lacks damage too. But he does have a godly ultimate and a great speed boost/slow. But hey, what do I know. In season two, HotShotGG played Zilean in 39 games and ended up having a 66.7% win rate. (Keep in mind this is 2300+ ELO)

And just like Psi said, play whatever you enjoy and whoever you think is fun :D

Yeah, with flask start and tear, mana will rarely be an issue, making laning a breeze. And I agree that late game he falls off, and just seems like a high utility champion that waits for his bomb to come off cooldown. So I guess I will only be playing Zilean when I have reliable friends with me, and avoid him in solo q.

Zilean is vaible if you can play him well, however his early is very ****ty compared to most supports/midlaners
I personally play him top mostly now

Carried myself from plat 4 to plat 1 with just this guy
(then i got over confident, and picked some other champs for a while :P )

With the new season, a support Zilean can generate a nice income of gold, so he can power up his Time Bombs and Chronoshift with lots of AP, as well as get the more expensive CDR items to maximize his utility. He is rather reliant on a good lane partner, though, since two of his abilities basically make the partner perform better, so solo que can be hit or miss depending on your carry's effectiveness- especially if they aren't familiar with a Zilean. I'd recommend going into matches as a duo so you can make things work out well, and to give Zilean a new try with the new season!

MY experience is that every champion can be viable if your able to play him properly and know a good build. I am sure that you can find on any champion a good build which lets you carry the game if you do it right. I think that non-viable champions do not exist(but i know that there may be champions that are not viable for me because i cant play them for some reason)

just play a bot game with any champion if you want proof- you will own hard(or you really cant play your champion)
