Next Patch AP Varus Viability

Hi guys!

So I've been thinking after reading the next patch notes for league of legends.

And I find out that will have passive, and will be deleted.

Will this make an already viable AP mid champion an op champion? I mean, I usually get + and others stuff in, but by joining these two, there will be an extra slot for another item, which can be super strong!

So, whats your thoughts? (... thinking about him too :S)

Stop playing Varus AP, there's absolutely no reason to do so.

AP Varus does tons of damage when fully built. Unfortunately he sucks massively before then. He may be playable in ARAM or Dominion but definitely not SR.

Granted, I think he's the only champion who can kill a fully-built with his burst (auto x3 -> DFG ult).

As much fun AP is GrandmasterD is correct. Varus first of all can't win the majority of mid lane match-ups.

I've tried it, it's awful against decent players. The burst is delayed because you need to stack up blight first in contrast to many other casters. second, varus has next to no escapes also no hard CC or ranged farming capabilities which is bad.

NO INSTANT BURST?! NO DPS?!

Go home, you drunk. I wont write another word to you until you try AP Varus :P He is perhaps the strongest "stacking burster" in the game.

Then you're playing against godawful players. About every decent ap caster should be able to crush Varus in lane. And if that doesn't happen, he has zero escapes and no instant burst nor does he have high dps. Ergo, there is no reason to do so other than: "it's fun" and to say "Look at me, I play ap varus"

why not? I always have success with AP Varus, I always carry my team, I always do quadras (damn, 2 unofficial pentas until now...)

and besides that... "there's absolutely no reason to do so" makes no sense. There is a reason to do it.

APC, destroy tanks, kill squishyes, carry games...

As much as I love AP , he will never be viable (competitively). In order for him to burst anything without his ultimate, he needs to get three auto attacks off. That's simply too much time requirement to get a burst that other mages can pull off in a mere second or two. hi passive W damage plus will give him reasonable sustained damage, sure, but other champions are better at both sustained damage and nuking than AP , and generally safer at doing it; IE: , , . All of those champions have defensive abilities that allow them to make used of the sustined damage from nashors. has no defense or escapes, and only actually needs attack speed to set up his burst faster.

TL;DR he's always been fun and usable like this (in normals) but it is not something that will ever be a thing in ranked or otherwise.
