Champion Overview:


Vayne is a ranged carry that scales VERY HARD into late game. Vayne is more of a counter-pick then a generic top lane pick, but if you are able to use her as a counter you will be able to use her scaling from the lane to carry late game. Vayne has abilities needed to keep champions off of her and chase after enemies she needs to. She is like poppy in the regard of make it through laning phase doing well and have a good advantage for the rest of the game.

Skills Overview:


Passive: Night Hunter- Vayne ruthlessly hunts evil-doers. She gains 30 Movement Speed when moving toward nearby enemy champions.
This skill allows you to chase down enemies really well.

Q: Tumble- Vayne tumbles a short distance and her next basic attack within 6 seconds deals bonus physical damage. The bonus is equal to 30/35/40/45/50% of her total Attack Damage. Cooldown 6/5/4/3/2 seconds. Cost 40 mana.
This skill gives you a slight bit of mobility to dodge skillshots and to counter harass the enemy.
Note: You can tumble over player made terrain like a jarvan wall, but you cannot tumble over walls in the map.

W: Silver Bolts- Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals an additional 20/30/40/50/60 plus 4/5/6/7/8% of the target's maximum Health as true damage. (Max: 200 damage vs. Monsters)
This skill is very nice in top lane, Where a lot of champions are tanky landing your % true damage is a big deal.

E: Condemn- Vayne fires a huge bolt, dealing 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) physical damage and knocking her target back. If they collide with terrain they take 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) additional physical damage and will be stunned for 1.5 seconds. Cooldown 20/18/16/14/12 seconds. Cost 90 mana. Range 450.
This skill allows vayne to do pretty well top lane, champions with only one gap closer will get shot away.
Note: If you time this right you can know the enemy away before they even hit you.

R: Final Hour- For 8/10/12 seconds Vayne gains 25/40/55 Bonus Attack Damage, Tumbling grants Vayne stealth for 1.5 seconds, and the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter is tripled. Cooldown 70 seconds. Cost 80 mana.
This is your "I want to commit to this fight and kick your ***" move. Use this when you are going in for the kill.

Easy

Cho'Gath (Poke him down do not get caught), Darius (Out range him completly, your knockback is the sam CD as his apprehend), Garen (He can't reach you), Jarvan IV (If you get the timing right you can shoot him BACKWARDS when he tries to dash to his flag), Olaf (Tumble to avoid his axes, poke from afar), Nasus (Zone him early with your range), Renekton (Knock him back when he tries to slice and tumble back when he trie to dice, you will be out of range for his Q), Singed (Beat him out early or you will fall behind), Udyr (Can't touch you) and Volibear (You can keep him away with your E until you get a phage, then you can kite him).
Hard

Akali (You will zone her pre 6, but then 6 your dead), Fiora She has a double dash to keep with you), Fizz (To many gap closers), Pantheon (He can Q harass you to death, and his shield blocks your harass), Lee Sin (If he touches you, you are dead), Jax (He will dodge and hop), Malphite (when he gets his ult...), Nidalee (she has range AND at 6 she gets the melee to kill you), Riven (To many gap closers) and Yorick (He will poke you to death).

Playing AS/VS:

As:
  • Tumble to dodge skillshots.
  • You can use your E to shoot enemies back before they reach you with thier gap closers.
  • Play somewhat passively in early, you do not need to get kills as you will scale harder then you enemies most of the time.
Vs:
  • Completly shut down Vayne early, or you lose.
  • Avoid walls.
  • Do not give her free damage on you.

Big Item Choices::


Heart of Gold + Vampiric Scepter - This is a trend I say some AD carrys beginning to do, It does not work as well on bottom as it does on top lane. This allows you to use your range and farm to late while getting some hp early to survive enemies. Bot lane the enemy has ranged as well so you need the damage, but here you get free trades so it is less needed. This also alows you to scale into late game faster.

Trinity Force- This item is nice on top vayne as all of the parts are used (Save the small bit of Ap), this items components allow you to fight other top laners very well

Phantom Dancer- More AS, crit, and Ms.

Infinity Edge- Crit, Damage, AND CRIT DAMAGE INCREASE. NICE!

Bloodthirster- Sustain and Damage

Guardian Angel- Revive is helpful.

Last Whisper-Armor Pen for late game.

Gametypes:

SoloQ:

Vayne is not that strong of a choice in soloQ mainly due to the fact your team will think you are trolling. If you are able to get an open minded team and a good matchup though, this can be very good for you.
Ranked 5s:

Vayne can shine here, running vayne top as a counter allows for something like blitzstar or jarvan leona or something to shut down the enemies bot lane while you are allowed to flourish.

Conclusion:


This is my top facts vayne. Vayne is a very fun champion that I happily welcome to top lane as a counter pick. She may not be good for your standard blind pick games however, and you may be called a troll by some who do not understand AD tops. As always good luck and have a good day on the fields of justice!

The intention of this series is not as a "Build guide" or a "play guide", these are more like facts you should know about the champion. These are to inspire people to think of new champion possibilities they might not have thought of or to help a new player with the champion. I do not list runes masteries or a set build ( I give a kind of recommended items) in here due to the fact I want people to think of that for themselves and try new things.
