Champion Overview:


Skarner is a tanky DPS champion capable of disrupting the enemy team and locking down an enemies key players. Skarner is fun to play and has a kit revolved around spamming skills while autoing the enemy. Skarner does magical and physical damage so he is hard to itemize against. Skarner's ultimate gives you one of the best feeling in the game as you drag an enemy to their death =3.

Skills Overview:


Energize- Basic attacks lower the cooldowns of Skarner's abilities by 1 second against champions and 0.5 seconds against non-champions.
This passive is nice for sticking to a target as the more you auto the more you can use skills.

Shattered Earth- Skarner lashes out with his claws, dealing 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 (+0.8 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to all nearby enemies and charging himself with Crystal Energy for 5 seconds if a unit is struck. If he casts Crystal Slash again while empowered by Crystal Energy, he deals 24 / 36 / 48 / 60 / 72 (+40% of ability power) bonus magic damage and slows all targets hit by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 % for 2 seconds.
This skill is a spammable slow ability, it does decent damage in lane and lets you lock a target down in teamfights.

Seismic Bastion- Skarner receives a shield for up to 6 seconds which blocks 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+60% of ability power) damage. While the shield persists his movement speed is increased by 15 / 17 / 19 / 21 / 23 % and his attack speed is increased by 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 %.
This skill is really nice for trading, it allows you to get in with MS, Gives you a shield to survive damage, and gives you AS to makes CDs go down faster.

Ixtal's Impact- Skarner summons a blast of crystalline energy which deals 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+70% of ability power) magic damage to enemies struck and marks them for 6 seconds. Any further damage dealt to marked targets by Skarner will allow him to consume the mark to heal himself for 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+30% of ability power) health. Subsequent marks consumed will heal for 50% of the last.
This skill is decent poke as well as being your sustain.

Impale- Skarner suppresses an enemy champion for 1.75 seconds and deals 100 / 150 / 200 (+50% of ability power) magic damage to it. During this time, Skarner can move freely and will drag his helpless victim around with him. When the effect ends, Skarner's target will be dealt the same amount of magic damage again.
This skill is really strong as it can be used as an engage, suppress on the enemy carry, or be used to peel off enemies from your carry. In lane this skill makes you very easy to gank for.

Q-(Auto)-(Repeat)-(W and E whenever they are up)- (R as a killing blow or to pull the enemy back.

Easy

Cho'Gath (You can zone him early)

Fiora (You can trade better then her).

Nasus (You can bully him out early).

Hecarim (He can't stop you early on)

Shen (He does not do enough damage to kill you.

Tryndamere (You easily drop him if you don't let him get fury).
Hard

Garen (Spins all day, to much damage)

Renekton (Strong sustain, strong early trade)

Olaf (TRUE DAMAGE SPAMMMMMMM)!

Rumble (Even if you pull him, his flamethrower still hits you)

Riven (Stronger early trade, she scales better then you)

Playing AS/VS:

As:
  • Watch the situation, your ultimate will call for different uses at different times.
  • Auto as much as possible to lower your cooldowns.
  • If you turn around right before your R ends it will give alot more distance on the pull.
Vs:
  • Do not get in range for his pull late game.
  • Do not let Skarner hit you with his Q twice or you will be in trouble.
  • Skarner can easily kill you if you try and dive him with his W, E and R to lock you down and stay safe.

Big Item Choices::


Nomad's Medallion and Heart of Gold- Keeps your gold amount healthy as well as giving you useful stats

Hextech Gunblade- Allows you to stick to a target.

Trinity Force- Makes you VERY strong (Enough to do TONS OF DAMAGE!)

Guinsoo's Rageblade- Is actually a very good damaging item on skarner.

Frozen Heart- Strong debuff makes you tanky.

Banshee's Veil- Makes you strong against CC and vs mages.

Gametypes:

SoloQ:

Skarner is decently strong here. Alot of players will not be able to quickly react to their carry getting taken away.
Ranked 5s:

Skarner is OK here, but it is mostly for the pick value. Skarner will be thought as a jungler and will not be counter picked. Skarner himself is not that good against teams that are organized, even if your team is.

,Pros and Cons:


Pros:
-Strong ultimate
-Can permaslow someone
-Good sustain
-Recieves ganks well
-Decently safe from ganks.

Cons:

-Expensive to build.
-Other champions can do his role top better.
-he gets crushed in a bad matchup.

Conclusion:


Skarner is a fun to play top lane champion. He may not be the best pick if you are looking for a ranked 5s top lane champion, but he is a strong choice in solo.
