Views: 1118 My friend and I are going to duoqueue for ranked...

Here's the thing:
We only play against bots. We've played a little ARAM and verrrrry few SR unrankeds. We're talking less than 10 wins here.
However, we've been playing since...well, a year now. We started October last year. We figured now would be a good time since rankings reset in two weeks and other people will be trying to get their ranking up. This'll also help us speed up our PvP experience (since we'll get tryhards instead of trolls hopefully).
Here's our rosters:
His:
Support:
Leona (Used in PvP)
ADC: Everyone except
Kog'Maw,
Sivir, and
Twitch. Has used
Ezreal and
Caitlyn in PvP
Mid:
Ahri,
Lux (both in PvP, but admits to being better with the freaky fox lady)
Top:
Darius,
Riven,
Kennen,
Quinn (never played top in PvP)
Jungle:
Shyvana (used in PvP),
Skarner (hasn't run into a team that'd benefit from the scorpion),
Dr. Mundo (feels too unsafe),
Kha'Zix and
Nocturne (feels weak using assassin junglers)
--Weaknesses: Overall inexperience, weak map awareness, "top lane", plays relatively safe in PvP (since he doesn't want to over-commit)
--Strengths: Familiar with most supports and carries
Mine:
Support: All but
Leona and
Alistar, and no unconventional supports (typically use
Janna,
Thresh in PvP)
ADC:
Sivir,
Ashe
Mid:
Lux,
Teemo,
Annie
Top:
Lulu (PvP),
Teemo
Jungle: Would use
Jarvan IV if I owned him
--Weaknesses: Lack of
Flash experience. srs. I rarely use
Flash and live.
--Strengths: Warding, counterwarding, map awareness, communication, picking good times to wander to mid or place wards in enemy jungle, familiar with most supports and carries
Here comes the questions:
1) What techniques can we work on? Anything not mentioned in strengths is probably worth addressing.
2) What champions do you recommend mastering for backups in our non-main roles? Preferably from our rosters lol.

As long as you pay attention to your own play, you've nowhere to go but up - either you win and gain lp or you lose and gain knowledge.
Pretty much why we're doing this XD We'll get PvP experience FASTER in ranked over normals. We understand we're really far behind, and we want to correct it.
There's also no punishment for doing it when rankings are about to reset. I doubt we'd be Bronze 5 (even if we were, I speak Spanish :P), but I'm thinking Silver 4 isn't that far out there as a goal for placement matches, which will let us know what we need to study for ranked next season.
Yeah, the reason we've been doing bots for so long and are taking advantage of the closure of the ranked season is mainly people's attitudes.
We have no problem with tryhards. It's the trolls/intentional feeders we're concerned about. Hell, worst comes to worst, if top lane feeds, I lane swap with them if they're a utility top. And I pick my support based on team composition, not JUST lane synergy (though that obviously factors a lot; I will take
I think we DO have an advantage over fresh 30s who may not understand the champions they're laning against or how to build a team, but anyone with more than 100 ranked games would most likely have the same knowledge.
As per the team suggestion, we considered it, but we concluded that we don't have enough synergy with our other friends to make it worth it. Ranked 5v5 is MUCH harder as people will tend to communicate much better with each other and know their allies' strategies. We don't have that advantage. I know how my partner works and I can analyze allied and enemy lanes, but I won't have excellent synergy with a stranger.
Thanks for the help sirell. So just the usual "don't let them get close lolololol" to handling
tbh, the worst kind are the flamers. They really are like funvampires. Trolls and feeders are pretty uncommon, at least I've encountered maybe 2 or so in my entire S3 rankedventure. I'd say just start playing ranked and see where you end up. Ranked is the best practice and I'd use it that way unless you really have the goal to get crazy high - in that case I'd wait.
However don't take this for not tryharding. I regularly pick stuff I never play in ranked, especially on my smurf, but that doesn't mean I don't do everything to win. As long as you pay attention to your own play, you've nowhere to go but up - either you win and gain lp or you lose and gain knowledge.

I do realize that you can play a ton of bots and still be a good player (more than most actually, as I know at least 1 person who has like 3k+ bot games and is good enough to get gold) but it just seems like you need more game experience before you start. :P
We also have no clue how to deal with
I don't have enough experience against AP
AD
If you're talking about being ganked by the two, it's just the same as any other ganker. Keep wards up and keep map awareness.
He already stated his poor map awareness, since that's the leading cause of his death.

Have a look at what happens when you play PvP together (preferably normals), share some scores and then we can answer questions :)
