Hello, everyone. My name is KaeldorAmmon, and I am a new player to LoL. Shortly after downloading the game and opening it for the first time, I realized what a deep, complex game LoL is, and decided that I would look to see if there were any guides to help me start on my quest for fame and glory. That search quickly led me here, to the MOBAFire site. I found a lovely guide for starting players by someone called The All Tomato (LoL Essentials), and quickly started running through a couple of tutorial games once I felt I had a handle on the basics of play.

I decided, after my first few games, that I would document my journey as a growing player here on MOBAFire in this blog. If nothing else, it would give me something to look back on and laugh at later once I had put in the work to become a great player. If I was lucky, maybe reading about my experiences would help another fledgling someday. With these lofty goals in mind, I set out to create this blog.

So far, I have played a dozen or so tutorial games in Summoner's Rift. I have not played in Co-Op/AI games yet, nor in any sort of PVP game. My reasoning is simple; I don't want to play in any format that involves other people until I have reached at least Summoner Level 10 so that all of my Summoner Spells are unlocked. The versatility and power offered by the full spell library will make me a better contributor to the success of my team, whether I am facing off against bots or other humans.

In the tutorial mode, I have only three characters available to me; Ashe, Garen, and Ryze. While I played a couple of games early on with Ashe, I quickly decided to shift my focus to Garen, as he seemed to fit better with my over-all play style (I like to get right up into the thick of things, and between his sustainability and his damage output, Garen was the clear winner for the title of "first champion KaeldorAmmon will seek to master".)

While I have won all of my tutorial games, some took longer than I would have liked, and some actually involved the death of one of my turrets. I have, however, in recent games started to get a bit of a better feel for how the computer plays. In addition, I have unlocked a couple of new champions to try out when I get to actual Co-Op or PVP battles ( Master Yi, in particular, looks like fun). Last but not least, the combination of guide-reading and play experience that I have accumulated thus far has taught me some really valuable lessons.

1. Survival Is Top Priority

The longer that I can stay alive in the thick of combat, the more gold and experience I will accumulate more quickly. This means more and better abilities and items, and thus, better means of kicking enemy backside. It's super easy to get yourself killed in this game if you over-extend yourself, so I pay close attention to things like my champion's health, and who/what is targeting me at any given time. I also pay very close attention to the health of my minions when I am near a tower, and I don't attack champions under towers unless I am assured of getting away before getting killed, preferably after killing the enemy.

2. Teleport Is Ridiculously Useful

I am not one hundred percent sure on this, but now that I have seen how much utility this spell provides on Garen, I may have to make it a permanent pick on any champion I play. The simple flexibility to pop myself back to the front line (or any other part of the battlefield where I have a single living ally) is an unbelievable advantage. First, it helps to keep me from losing too much XP and money when I die/need to go shopping. Second, it allows me to take advantage of gank opportunities when the situation looks right (I once TPd into a cluster and took down 2 champs and four minions with one pop-off of Judgment.

3. I Have A Lot More To Learn

The meta on this game is so deep, I can't even find anything to compare it with. I have my first champion chosen; now I have to make a firm choice about where to play him, what to gear him with as my "default", as well as my skill selection order by default. And of course, I need to keep up to speed on what other champions can do, because what I see in the pre-battle screen of any match might change what I need to do entirely (except that I am likely to stick with Teleport as one of my Summoner Spells; it's too useful to leave out in my book).

Well, that's it for my first blog entry. I am anticipating hitting level 10 and stepping into my first Co-Op/AI game in just a day or so; I will write more about that experience once I have it. Meanwhile to anyone who happened to read this far, I hope you enjoyed this peek into my mind. Please feel free to leave comments or to message me; just please, no flaming. I am here to have fun, and I treat other people with respect, so I'd like the same in return.
