In League of Legends, we are always discussing strategies and builds and which Champions are viable, etc... Summoners may not realize the importance of Items play in making a Champion viable. A Champion can exist and be considered 'not viable' for numerous reasons, but one of the biggest factors is Itemization. If items do not exist that compliment that Champion's kit, then that Champion will continue to be 'not viable'. I want to discuss the importance of Itemization and Champion viability.

There are numerous ways that Champions can scale into lategame as a main damage source for a team. The two most common routes are through Ability Power (APCs) and Attack Damage (ADCs). I'm Major Swain. I am a Jungle Main. Hecarim is my main Champion.
The reason I main Jungle is because I am good with Jungle timers, counterjungling and early ganks.

I have been playing since Season 1 before Kayle got reworked.

My first Champion I ever played and mained was Rammus. I prefer tanks and offtanks such as Hecarim, Nautilus, Cho'gath Rammus, Alistar, Leona, Jarvan IV, and Nasus.
I mained Toplane during Season 1& 2, and transitioned into the jungle during Season 3.
