Put AD carry top and it's too squishy.
AP carries scale amazingly well with levels, if you put a support in mid when the jungler can just give away free Blues, you waste their potential and level advantage.

Soooooooo......Jax.....
The change on his ult lets him supposedly build glass cannon again and still be Tanky as hell. Personally, I'm not sure, but I think building items that give AP/AD and health like rylai's crystal...
