Are tanks dead?
Does
Nunu & Willump count?

Eh, it's not really about true tanks. The supertanks such as
Maokai,
Gnar, and
Sion are able to stick around due to that very prefix. The thing OTG is pointing at, I'm sure, is the bruiser archetype of League of Legends, which is fairly dead, with the exception of a few who have proven themselves to be top tier in the jungle through which they are capable of putting up early pressure.
However, as it stands, defensive statistics are still in a bad spot compared to offensive ones, mostly due to items like
Last Whisper and
Void Staff. The fact that a
Garen with 4k hp and 350 armour cannot survive past the fourth second of a teamfight is fairly ridiculous to me.
Tanks aren't completely dead, but champions that solely get tanky by building defensive items seem to be;
Jarvan IV and
Renekton are perhaps exceptions, but the last time I played them, they still melted late-game, even though their damage output is fine.

I think the problem is that buffing defensive items when champions like
Jarvan IV are still around building only 1 damage item and 3-shotting carries midgame doesn't seem reasonable.
In my opinion, they either need to tone down offtanks to force them to choose if they want to go more damage-y if they wanna hurt you or not 3-shot you if they go tanky, or make tanks scale better with resistances (aka give them bonus armor/mres scaling with their armor/mres when they use such and such ability. although this would need a MAJOR rehaul of some tank's stats and base damages/resitances).

But the meta has shifted out of tanks, hasn't it? It's not the age of Mundos anymore. As the meta changes it might go back there again, so they are not dead forever.

Reasons I feel like this is;
1. Many tanks have been nerfed in previous seasons, like the notorious Season 3 Tank Meta.
2. Riot keeps making defenses harder to buy/stack.
3. Doing damage is more cost efficient in most cases.
4. LW/Void Staff make tanks look like a joke.
5. Season 5 jungle is overbearing for nearly all tanks.
But what IS a "True Tank"?
I'm talking about champions that do their role and function off 0 offensive stats. This used to include all of the bruiser role as well as actual tanks in Season 3. But currently it doesn't feel like ANY tank can get away with this kind of build in this meta, with a few exceptions like
Most tanks these days build at least a quarter or half their build as damage. But I do think that there are a few True Tanks remaining. I'm not sure of which of them actually sees competitive play though, so help me out.
