And no, you're wrong. This was the chance for an in game evaluation of how a person plays specific champs. Despite losing a game, if you play well, you can still be rewarded with a rank representiting how well you yourself personally performed. It also shows which champs you don't perform well as for.
It's all missed opportunity.

But what's the point in complaining? Plus it's only just gone live, they can and probably will make a load of changes to it like higher mastery levels and maybe even add a way to decay for bad performances. I don't see how the system brings a negative impact in any way. Sure it's not exactly accurate for now but it's kinda ridiculous how much people are complaining about it.

I will admit that there has been a fair amount of complaining here, but for the most part each complaint has had suggestions attached with them as to how make the system better. I still think the system is a great addition to League, it just needs a little more refinement.
Like The Nameless Bard said, it's easy to play certain champions at lower ELO'S, because low level players are going to be easier to grab with a
Thresh hook, but as you climb the ELO Ladder they won't be making the same mistakes that a bronze or silver player would. So Champion Mastery level 5 doesn't really show true mastery with any one champion. Lee Sin is a perfect example, if you can't ward jump or use his ult properly he's really bad in high elo, but he is still easy to win with in lower ELO. Same with Amumu his Ult is super easy to land on everyone in bronze, but in Plat-Challenger they know how to peal for an ADC with out stacking.
